Zoo Lemur Behavior


To learn more about the behavior of the Black-and-White lemur when it lives in a zoo environment I am observing the two female lemurs who live in the zoo where I go to school. I have found some interesting things about the lemurs that live in the zoo.

Bio of the Zoo's Lemurs

Name: Frankie
Sex: Female
Age: approx. 10 years
Cage: Indoors, Cement floor with wire chain-link caging

Name: Flipper
Sex: Female
Age: approx. 10 years
Cage: Outdoors with indoor retreat, Grass/soil floor with wire caging

Size: between 6-7 lbs.
Diet:
Morning
a few pieces of greens
1/8 can ZupreemŽ Primate Diet
4 red high fiber monkey biscuits (2 soaked)
1 soaked brown high fiber monkey biscuit
Afternoon
1/8 can ZupreemŽ Primate Diet
1/2 banana
1/4 orange
1/4 apple
2-3 pieces of 2 different veggtables
3 pieces cooked yam or potato
Treats
Grapes, Cantaloupe, Peaches, Hard-boiled Egg
Gestation: 90-102 days
Maturity: 20 months
Lifespan: 20 yrs.
Interactions with Humans: groomed by humans, petted by humans, trained to go into kennel by humans
Behaviors: sleep/rest durning middle of the day, bark/screech vocalization, circuling, leaping, climbing, sunning(only Flipper), eating
