The goldfish gets bigger and bigger with all of the overfeeding. Magic occurs to shrink the fish to its original size again at the end of the story. This book is probably about 15-20 years old--her son remembers it. It is NOT Steven Kellogg's "Mysterious Tadpole". [*From Moderator* This book is the most requested stumper on PUBYAC. It is Helen Palmer's _Fish Out of Water_ and BIP shows that it is in print, copyright 1966.--Shannon] Any help with this would be appreciated. I've checked A-Zoo, Best Books for Children, Adventuring With Books, and any other source I could think of. One more thing--does anyone know of some good titles about a sibling dealing with a brother or sister's cancer/serious illness. It can be fiction or non-fiction but on a preschool-3rd grade level. There's a lot for older children, but not much for the younger. I know about "There's a little bit of me in Jamey" by Amadeo but I'm just wondering what else you might have run across. (Most books are for the child dealing with the cancer, not for the sibling(s)). Thanks so much--I really enjoy subscribing to this list and seeing everyone's ideas and comments. My patron is looking for a book he believes he read in the late sixties. In it, a giant built a dam and a little boy had to dismantle the dam with a spoon. He believes it was a picture book. I have checked "A to Zoo." The school librarian at the middle school has asked for a 3-4 grade level fiction book for a middle school student having to do with drug abuse, alcoholism. The point is to get the student to read and it seems that this subject would be of interest to the student. It's not clear to me if the problem is with the student or parents.(hard dealing through a middle person!) Blue and Pink cover, 100-150pp. Purchased at Hallmark. In the book is a party game for a treasure hunt based on Nursery Rhymes. the party rhymes refer to a tradidtional rhyme and the object you need to find. Example. Old Woman who lives in a shoe - get a shoe; jack jumped over the candlestick - get a candlestick. I have checked our catalog and Crafts Index for Children by Pilger. No luck. A colleague suggested a title she remembers from long ago, but we do not have entitled JUST A PARTY BOOK. If you have this, please check for me. Thanks in advance for a long shot. It is basically a social history of how girls' bodies have been made problematic for them over the years. Of particular interest is the chapter called "Sanitizing Puberty: The American Way to Menstruate," in which the author makes the point that, for American girls, menarche is more a hygiene event than a developmental milestone. (I doubt that I'm the only female on these lists who can relate to that!) I understand Ellen Goodman loves it, too, but I haven't seen her column. In any case, it is a great read and good professional book about kids from an unusual perspective, with lots of information provision and communication implications. Mary K. Mary K.
