Constitution of the Hammond High School

Chapter of the

Future Scientists International

Article I

Name and Purpose

Section 1. The official name of this organization will be the Hammond High School Chapter of the Future Scientists International

Section 2. The purpose of this organization will be to create an interest in science and education, to stimulate the minds of the students of Hammond High School by making them think about their environment, to help surrounding communities, and to develop character and leadership abilities in each member of this organization.

Section 3. The Hammond High School Science Club will be under the sponsorship and supervision of Mr. Burton.

Article II

The President

Section 1. The President will reserve the right to approve all the activities and decisions of the Science Club.

Section 2. The President will supervise and overview all club activities.

Section 3. The President will reserve the right to call vote on an amendment to this Constitution.

Article III

The Vice President

Section 1. The Vice President will assist the president, and he or she will take office, with all presidential rights, when the president is absent or impeached.

Article IV

The Secretary

Section 1. The Secretary will maintain the files of club membership and help reassure that all club projects will maintain complete organization.

Section 2. The Secretary will keep detailed records of what happens during all club meetings and club activities.

Section 3. The Secretary reserves the right to choose an assistant to take his or her place in case of absence.

Section 4. If impeached, the Secretary will be replaced by an applicant choosen by the Executive Council.

Article V

The Historian

Section 1. The Historian will keep a scrapbook of photos for the Science Club that will show all of the club's major events throughout the year.

Section 2. The Historian reserves the right to choose an assistant to take his or her place in case of absencet.

Section 3. If impeached, the Historian will be replaced by an applicant choosen by the Executive Council.

Article VI

The Treasurer

Section 1. The Treasurer will keep a detailed record of all financial transactions and funds in the club treasury.

Section 2. The Treasurer will reserve the right to call an officer's meeting to discuss fund raising any time he or she deems it necessary.

Section 3. The Treasurer will annually examine the budget of this organization and determine the cost of club dues.

Section 4. The Treasurer reserves the right to choose an assistant to take his or her place in case of absence.

Section 5. If impeached, the Treasurer will be replaced by an applicant choosen by the Executive Council.

Article VII

Club Membership

Section 1. Students will become official members of the Hammond High School Chapter of the Future Scientists International when their dues are paid. Once they are an official member, the students will receive one club hour according to the point system (refer to Article X for more information about the point system).

Article VIII

Meetings

Section 1. This organization will hold regular meetings at least twice every month until May.

Section 2. This organization will hold officer meetings whenever the Sponsor, the President, or the Treasurer deems it necessary.

Section 2. Special meetings may be requested by the officers, the Sponsor, or the President if felt necessary.

Article IX

Awards

Section 1. Awards will be given out at the official banquet at the end of April each year.

Section 2. An award will be given to the member of the club with the most points at the end of the year. The member must be of the general membership--officers are not eligable for this award.

Section 3. A certificate will be awarded to those members who have worked on the homecomming float (or similar projects) for many hours or to those members that have supplied important materials for those projects.

Section 4. Special recignition will be given to those students who paticipate in the science fair or other similar events. Awards will be given to those who place in the science fair, and certificates will be awarded to other participants who also hold membership in the club.

Article X

The Point System

Section 1. All members will receive points for attending club activities or meetings which can be accumulated over the school year. Students receive 100 club pionts for paying club dues and a designated amount of minutes/points for every other activity, meeting, or contribution towards this organization. Students with high point totals during the school year are applicable for various awards and honors.

Article XI

The Partner System

Section 1. An emergency contact service, that will ensure each member is always informed, will consist of a member calling their chosen Partner and telling them the information that had been told to them by another member. If a member cannot contact his or her Partner, than they will call the Partner of their Partner so the service system continues. The member who could not reach their partner should continue to try to get in contact with their original Partner.

Article XII

Activities and Projects

Section 1. Every month a variety of activities for enrichment and community services will take place. Activities, fund raisers, and their dates will be set by the President at monthly meetings. Club members can volunteer their time to help with the activities at those meetings and receive points (See Article X for further information about the Point System).

Section 2. In the event that club members cannot be gathered together in a meeting to receive information for an activity or a fund raiser idea, the Partner System will be used (See Article XI for further information about the Partner System). Article XIII Amending the Constitution Section 1. An amendment shall be proposed by any member whenever deemed necessary by the President and at least half of the membership. The amendment is then ratified at the next formal meeting when two-thirds of the membership vote in favor of ratification.
