Water Conditioning andAdditives
| I started my tank using Instant Ocean salt. This salt contains calcium and other elements that corals need to live and grow. When a tank is first started you will want to start with some live rock and a few Damsels to seed the biofilter. During this break-in time the Ammonia, Nitrite and Nitrate levels will rise. Once the biowheel grows it's layer of Ammonia and Nitrite converting bacteria, the levels will drop. All you have left to deal with is the Nitrates which are removed by occasional water changes. Now you can put in the expensive stuff. This process may take a month or two. Be patient. The temperature of a reef tank should be maintained at approximately 80 to 85 degrees Fahrenheit. |
| Continued dosing of Calcium and other elements is requried on a "twice a week" basis so the corals can continue to grow. I use Reef Complete, Reef Calcium, Reef Iodide and Reef Plus by |
