Peace and love to you. I hope you don't mind if I were to ask for your opinion about some questions thats bugging me. Before I get to the questions its crucial to know how my 'mind' works for you to get an understanding why its necessary for these silly questions.
When I listen to any musical act that I love, I enjoy it like anybody else, but the pleasure is only for a moment. Pretty soon my 'mind' will over analyze the music and finds all the weak points and dwells on it untill I can't appreciate any music that I love. Even if the music, doesn't have any weak points the 'mind' creates its own by suggesting at first. Of course it will be frivolous in the beginning but later it grows bigger and bigger untill I'm not sure anymore or really start believing there is a weak point. When it all gets so clouded like this I can't think anymore and need a second opinion.(from a reliable source).
Now the questions that was raised by my mind are :
(1) Is Captain Beefheart a Frank Zappa immitator ?
(2) Does the Jefferson Airplane have a DISTINCTIVE SOUND ?
No use in asking the fans from the internet because I know what the answer would be. I just need an 'HONEST' answer from a music critic that respect to silence my own 'critical mind'.
Please do reply to my e-mail. A simple yes and no is what I need. A simple yes or no will stop me from sitting on the fence. Please don't tell me to "get a life" as my girlfreind and freinds did because they dont' understand that music is part of my life. Thank you for your patience in reading this e-mail.

Hi,
Rather cruel isn't it, to send an A1 album to a Joplin fan?? Besides,
I'm sure
that this is the promotional copy which was sent to you. You have every
reason
not to want it side by side with others in your collection. By the way,
just to
let you know, have been a fan of yours for a long time and envy you
your job.
Cheers,

I don't know where i'll be without your reviews. Glorious from the onset of adolescence, my musical background was as weak as a cup of tea left in the rain. But your Tracks reviews have guided my musical sensibilities. I may dare to claim to possess musical taste now. However you are to be blamed for the sombreness, the brooding, often morbid personality that i possess now. Who says music cannot influence? i am an amateur writer in my own right, and the influences found in my writing are more musical than literature. I do get influenced by folks like Joyce and Rushdie, but the biggest influence on my style has been great lyricists like Jim Morrison and Eddie Vedder. I still remember when i rushed off to buy VS when i saw you gave it a damn good rating. No regrets there. Keep up the good work.

I am a ardent reader of your column in the NST and buy my cd's based on
your reviews. But i have one major grouse and that is you are too kind
to mediocre artists'. 2 stars is definitely not fair! 3 stars should be
fair, 2 mediocre and 1 stinks. That will add some semblance to those
whom are talented and those which are not. By the way, when are you
going to review PJ Harvey's Is This Desire?
Regards.

as the subject heading suggest ... actually i'm more of a inquirer...
1. whatever happened to Terry Benjamin.... in the early 80's he had this column ranging pop trivia and fanciful facts.... can anybody relive that ......???
2. i belong to that bygone era (80's) so i was wondering are there any compilation albums from any from those fantastic but maybe forgotten era ... namely groups like ... naked eyes, camaflaouge(the spelling's out... you can tell, right?), a flock of seagulls, blancmange, soft cell, quarterflash, the clash, the alarm, aztec camera, breathe, the cars, ..... do i need to ...complete the lineup???
3. any new offerings from that jazz funk outfit - shakatak ??

Mr.R.S.Murthi,
I am a regular reader of your TRACKS (in NST) and I found out it is very interesting. I would like to know how I could have access to your early reviews, perhaps dated back to the 80's!I have so far used your guide to purchase my CDs and I must say you are very good at it. Please advise me.
Thank-you,

hello mr rs murthi.
i have been reading your music reviews for a long long time already. i guess since the mid 80's when i was still in primary school. the first review that really affected me was the rattle and hum review. still can remember vividly there was also the bon jovi review on the same page. i went to get rattle and hum right away then. and then your review on ten from pearl jam.. awesome. sometimes i don't agree with you but overall you did a great job. oh..the metallica fuel review.
that fuel is supposed to be a single release on 3 different selections but there all 3 are packaged together, that is why you get fuel on every track.
by the way, you should check out this guy... hayden. he's a killa dude from canada... and did you ever review jeff buckley? grace and the new 2cd are good.
keep up the good work.
