There will be a rally in support of preserving the Playing Field in the Culmore neighborhood of Baileys Crossroads on SUNDAY, JANUARY 16, from 2 to 3PM.

It is hoped that a VERY large turnout will convince the Eckerd Corporation and the land developer, the Zimmer Corporation, (1)to relocate the planned pharmacy and convenience store to a vacant, already existing commercial location, and, (2) to agree to allow the purchase of the property for the creation of a park.

MEET at Culmore Court next to the soccer field at the corner of Glen Carlyn Dr.and Leesburg Pike. There is an indoor site planned in case of bad weather. (If you can't make the full hour, the 2:15 to 2:45 time slot is most crucial) There are information on the issue and a copy of the letter that can be sent to Eckerd's on our web site http://www.homestead.com/novagreens/history.html

LAND USE COMMITTEE - FAIRFAX COALITION FOR SMARTER GROWTH meeting
Wednesday, January 19th, 7:30 p.m.

The Land Use Committee of the Fairfax Coalition for Smarter Growth was formed to specifically address the preservation of open space and other land use concerns within Fairfax County. We are seeking volunteers to share their time and ideas on how to re-direct development within our County to better: preserve green space and habitat; reduce crowding in our schools, on our roads and elsewhere; reduce taxes and other costs; prevent pollution; and otherwise change the disappointing pattern of sprawl in our County and within our region.

We have a number of projects for which we need your help! If you are interested, please attend our next meeting which will be held on Wednesday, January 19th at 7:30 p.m. at the McLean Government Center at 1437 Balls Hill Road, McLean. For more information, directions to the meeting or to be included on the e-mail information list, please contact Mary Katherine Ishee at m_k_ishee@hotmail.com. We look forward to hearing from you on this very important issue!
