BIRDING HOTSPOTS
Here is a list of birding hotspots in the South
Peel region (Halton and Peel south of Derry Road). They are not
necessarily for all seasons, and right now only have directions
on how to get there from the QEW. But, in the future should have
what season the area is best in and what birds might be found.
Also please send Mike information on any other birding hotspots not found
here.
BURLINGTON
Royal Botanical Gardens (RBG)
From the QEW to Hwy 6 north (exit 93), take this north and turn
right at the first lights (Plains Road), than take this to the
next set of lights and turn left, follow this road to the RBG
Center on the right. From here you can cross the road and take
trails down into the valley.
Woodland Cemetary
From the QEW take Hwy 6 north to the first lights, Plains Road,
and turn right than at the next set of lights turn right again.
Spencer Smith Park
From the QEW take Brant Street (101) south to Lakeshore Rd. and
you can park in the Venture Inn parking lot which is a little
further east on Lakeshore Rd.
Sioux Lookout and Walkers Line
From the QEW take either Walkers Line (106), to Lakeshore Rd. and
right at the base is a parkett which gives you a small lookout
over the lake, than you head west on Lakeshore Rd. and Sioux

Applebly Line.
OAKVILLE
Shell Park and South Shell Park
Take the QEW to either Bronte Road (111) or Burloak Road (109),
turn to go south, and from Bronte turn right at Lakeshore Road
(Hwy 2), or from Burloak turn left at Lakeshore Rd., from Bronte,
Shell Park comes first and is on your right, and South Shell
comes shortly after, with the opposite from Burloak. Also the
base of Burloak can be good, but there is no parking, you will
either have to park at South Shell or in the residential area.
Bronte Woods
Take the QEW to Bronte Rd (111), turn south and go to
Lakeshore Rd and turn right. Take this over the bridge and turn
right at the first lights, Mississauga Road, follow this north to
Chalmers Road, and turn left. Than follow this as it curves left
and on your right there should be a small park, and a cresent to
your left. Park in this area and take the left path through
Villagewood Park, which will go through a fence and open to a
field, which there is another fence and forest on the other side,
find a hole in the fence and this is Bronte Woods. Trust me it is
easy than it sounds.
Bronte Harbour & Bronte Marsh
From the QEW take the Bronte Road exit (111) and turn left at the
lights, south onto Bronte Road, and follow this right down to the
lake and there is free parking near the base of the road.
Petro Canada Park
From the QEW take Bronte Rd. (111) south, and it is just after
Wyatt Street. But a word of caution, it is a small driveway and
easy to miss.
Bronte Provincial Park
There are two entrances to Bronte Prov. Park the east and west,
however, the east one only has trails and no Visitor Center. To
get to the east side take the QEW to Bronte Rd. north (111),
and follow this north to Upper Middle Road, and turn left. It is
a dead end road and you park at the end, and the trails lead off
from there. To get to the west entrance take the Burloak Rd. and
take this north to the park entrance which is on the right, there
is a fee from this entrance though.
Gairlock Gardens
From the QEW take Ninth Line/Ford Drive (123) south to
Royal Windsor Drive than turn right, than at Maple Grove Drive
turn right and take this to Lakeshore Rd. and turn right, and it
is about 1 km down on the left.
Joshua Creek
Take the QEW to Winston Churchill Road and turn south and take
this to Lakeshore Rd and turn right. Than at Arkendo Drive turn
left, which is the first street over the bridge, take Arkendo to
the end where there is a opening to the forest. You can park here
and walk into the woods.

Lakeshore Rd. and it is on the right side of the road. There is
also a path leading from Jack Darling Park to Rattray Marsh.
