between 8:30 and 9:15 at the Truckee River Bridge on N. McCarran in Sparks Nevada, near the University of Nevada Agricultural Station, on July 28, 2000, I watched bats leave the underside of the bridge and fly up river. A hawk attacked them and made at le st two kills while I watched. No bats appeared to fly down river. Up river is toward the setting sun. Other observers told me there were several species in this colony including a "zebra" bat with white poka-dots. According to other observers one of the species is "mexican". Walking under the bridge during the exodus, I could hear loud squeeking. A flashlight revealed the seams in the concrete were filled with bats. The seams are about an inch wide, and run the full length of the bridge spans. Our area is in a rapid population expansion, and I wonder what will happen when this bridge needs to be replaced with something different, bigger, or better, or what will happen when the bridge simply needs repairs?

Hi Second Grade Bat Watchers. I have a barn filled with bats. The colony has over 350 bats and it's quite exciting to be in the barn at dusk. I'm glad that you are dedicated to preserving these little creatures. Our colony I believe is the Little Brown Bats. If you have any questi ns about them, please feel free to email me and I will try and answer your questions with whatever knowledge I gained about them in the past five years. As you can see by my email address, I also am crazy about horses too, but since I don't have a horse et, I can probably help you learn more about the bats!! I will look forward to hearing from you.

Bats are the greatest. One of the best caves for bats is in the Ozarks in Arkansas. The caves are endless and the formations beautiful but the best part was seeing all the bats.

I am looking for some activities on bats for kindergarten and first grade students. They are interested in learning more about bats, but i want to teach some hands on activities. Any suggestions?
