SIMON & SCHUSTER'S GUIDE TO PLANTS AND FLOWERS

This book has over 500 full-color illustrations, so it is great for identifying plants. It's descriptions include many popular categories of plants including some that are unusual such as Medicinal and Aromatic plants, Rock Garden plants, Mediterranean plants, and Water and Pool plants. It is not as complete as other plant reference books that I have seen, but if you don't want a large sized enclyclopedia of plants, this is a good one to have. It is in paperback, so it's easy to carry around with you. The illustrations are beautiful, although some of them show a closeup of the flower without showing you how the entire plant looks. The descriptions include the physical characteristics of the plant, its uses, how to propagate it, the environment and light requirements, the type of soil it prefers, the moisture it needs, and the region best suited for it. It also includes a brief history and geneology of each plant. You will definitely learn a lot about plants from this book.
