SHRUTHI MUKUND

 

Text Box:  Lalitha Srinivasan, Director of Nupura School of Dance, Bangalore initiated Shruthi Mukund to Bharathnatyam, in 1987. Thereafter, she continued her training under Kiran Subramaniam and Sandhya Kiran a husband-wife duo who run a popular dance academy, Rasika in Bangalore.

 

She has performed in all her Academy productions all over India & the U.S. Shruthi has given 16 years of her life to dancing, and alongside has managed to gain an impressive academic record, having graduated in Computer Science from M.E.S. College where she also completed her PGD in Personnel Management.  At present, she is working at Amarex LLC, MD as Medical Writer.

 

She has learnt Kallaripayettu, a martial art form from Kerala, and Mayurbhanj Chhau a martial art form from North Eastern India because she believes it will widen her horizons in dance. She has also experimented in Contemporary Dance Style through choreography. She has performed for the IDEA festival 2001 and Natanjali Festival 2002 at the Shiva Vishnu Temple, MD. Shruthi eventually wishes discover the potential of Movement therapy and Dance choreography. Currently, she is an associate teacher with the Natyabhoomi School of Dance run by her sister Deepti Mukund.

 

 

Text Box:  The Gaithersburg Library at Quince Orchard conducted a Festival of India called Mela. It was an attempt to showcase the beautiful and diverse culture of India. Shruthi presented a Lecture Demonstration on the various Classical, Folk, and Martial dance forms of India. The Gazette recently featured Shruthi’s Dance Demonstration

 

Her current passion is “Desi Dancercize” or “Dance for fun” which she teaches in Germantown & Rockville. This is a class designed for women who want to dance as well as exercise to Indian music & moves!

 

During the Asian Pacific Heritage Month in May, Shruthi along with the dancers of Natyabhoomi performed at various Federal Government offices to spread the beauty of Indian dance and culture.

 

She was one of the dancers in “Dance Installation 4.20” a hybrid performance and installation events Mixing both Western and non-Western based artists and art forms produced by WordSoundAction.

 

Shruthi, along with Deepti, recently conducted the annual weeklong dance workshop/camp at Natyabhoomi called Natya 2002.
