We belong to a least one common web ring, I went random from it but cannot recall which. Arrived here and wow. When I visited South Africa last year I enjoyed the sight of Bottle Nosed Dolphins swimming in the wild. Have been considering writing my wn notes on the species and posting them to my site. Only one page so far Pilot Whales, which I se you do not include in your very comprehensive list. Having seen your site and the excellent work you are doing will simply put a link to it from mine in the near future. This is a very well written and planned site thank you for all your hard work

Hey! Nice page! Your captivity opinions were very well thought-out but I'd like to point out a few things. I am pro captivity for one reason: The oceans, rivers, estuaries and lakes in which cetaceans reside are being destroyed, the cetaceans are being hunted ruthlessly and now that whaling is starting to start up again, our cetaceans face extreme danger. It i impossible to give the money and time to the millions of people who go to marine parks to go to the ocean and see cetaceans. Now let's say we COULD do that..wouldn't that ruin the habitat more? The boat traffic from the many people who refuse to see ceta eans in captivity because they believe it is "immoral" make the problem worse by increasing the amount of boat traffic trying to see dolphins in the wild. Some larger, slower cetaceans are even being maimed and killed because they've been hit by whale-wat hing boats. The fact is, humans want to get closer to these animals because we feel a very close connection with them. The problem is...it's very dangerous to do in the wild. While we may have captive environments that are disgusting (and therefore should be shut down) there are many oceanariums and aquaria that have great credentials and have great environments. Second of all, the dolphins in MOST cases are not seen as "tools". In fact, you have it backwards. When the first dolphins were captured, yeah, the zoo trainee and staff thought of them as just a regular animal who could do a few 'tricks'. As time went on they realized that these animals were, in fact, unlike any other due to their incredibly capacity to learn, respond and teach themselves. either way, you have a GREAT site! I have loved dolphins since I was a little girl. I have a bunch of things with dolphins on them. I would do anything just to be with them. I have always wanted to work with Dolphins. When I was in the 11th grade, durning Carrer Day, I began looking for information about places I could go to study these absolutely beautiful animals. However, not long after I graduated my husband and I got mar ied and to our surprise here came our beautiful daughter Angelle! I now have a son, Triston, and for now these are our first priorities. I have set aside my dreams of working with and swimming with the Dolphins. Two years ago our family went on vacation o Florida where I was able to touch a Dolphin for the first time. However supportive my husband has been about the love I feel for these animals he finally understood how deep it is after seeing my reaction to this encounter. He was then willing to reloc te our family to a place where I could start my carrer. We live in a small town where my husband and I grew up and both our families are close by. I feel that our children will benifit from staying here because the schools and the people are great. I ma never have the ability to fulfill my dreams because of location and financies, but the love I feel for Dolphins has spilled over to my 9 yr. old daughter who now says she too wants to work with the Dolphins. I feel that if I never am able to fulfill my d eams, that one day I may be able to fulfill them through hers! I would love to get email on any information that you find.
