WHAT DO YOU NEED TO PLAY ? Each player needs a deck of sixty cards, a coin to flip and some counters to mark your damage.
HOW TO WIN You can win three different ways. At the start of the game you set aside 6 cards as prizes every time you knock out one of your opponents pokemon you pick up a prize, when you take all five prizes you win the game. You can olso win if your opponent doesn't have any pokemon to play or if your opponent doesn't have any cards left in his deck.
WHATS THE GAME LIKE ? You and your opponents take turns playing cards from your hands. Some of these cards will be basic pokemon cards, evolution cards that help them grow to stronger pokemon and energy cards which let them fight. There are also trainer cards which do different things to help you win. You can have several pokemon on the table, but only one of them will be your active pokemon, the one you fight with. The rest of the pokemon sit on the bench in case you need them to fight. Every turn you will have a chance to attack your opponent, the attack will either damage you opponent or do something else like make it asleep confused, poisoned or paralyzed. When you do enough damage to knock out your opponent you may take out one of the prizes.
DIFFERENT KINDS OF CARDS Basic Pokemon- your most omportant cards, they do all the fighting Evolution Cards- placed on top of you basic pokemon cards to make them bigger and stronger Energy Cards- placed on top of you pokemon to give them the energy they need to attack you opponent Traner Cards- one shot cards that do something to you or your opponents deck or to you or your opponents pokemon
STARTING THE GAME *Shuffle your deck and draw a hand of 7 cards, put the remaining cards in front of you. *Each player picks a basic pokemon card to put face down in front of you, these will be the starting pokemon. * If one of your first 7 cards is not a basic pokemon card you must shuffle your hand back into your deck and pick out 7 more cards, the opponent can then draw up to 2 more cards. If you still don't have a basic pokemon repeat process. *Each player may then choose up to five more basic pokemon to put face down on the bench. *Then take 6 more cards from the deck to place face down in front of you as prizes. *Then you flip a coin to see which one you goes first. *Now flip over all the active and benched pokemon that have been placed on the table, but leave prizes face down. |

CONTINUE PLAYING As you play you and your opponents take turn, you don't do anything durign your opponents turn exept replace a knocked out card if he knock out one of your cards.
WHAT YOU CAN DO DURING YOUR TURN these are the thing you can do during your turn: 1) DRAW a card- you must always start your turn by drawing a card, if you don't have anycards at he beginning of your turn to draw then you lose. 2)DO ANY of the following in any order as often as you like: *put a basic pokemon on the bench-your bench can hold up to 5 pokemon *evolve a pokemon in play- if you have a card that says "evolves from so and so", and so and so is a card that you have in play then you may put the card on top of so and so. When you evolve a pokemon all the attacks from the previous pokemon go away, but all cards and damage stay. Any status changed go away too. *attach an energy card to a pokemon (once during turn)- take an energy card from your hand and attach it to a pokemon in play. *play a trainer card- do what it says on the card then put it on the discard pile. *retreat your active pokemon- you may switch your active pokemon with a benched pokemon if you have enough energies attached to pay the retreat cost. if asleep or paralyzed you may not retreat. *Use a pokemon power- certain pokemon have a pokemon power you can use before attacking to use it simply do what it says on the card. 3) ATTACK with your active pokemon- you may choose to attack you opponents pokemon only once. to attack you must meet the neccesary energy requirement. when you attack you do what it says to do and the damage you give is the damage it says on the attack. Some pokemon have weaknesses or resistances to other pokemon. if your opponent is weak to your type attack does double, if he is resistant you do 30 less damage. If your pokemon gets knocked out you put everything attached to it exept damage counters in the discard pile. 4) YOUR TURN IS NOW OVER
AFTER EACH PLAYERS TURN after each players turn if one of their pokemon is poisoned it takes damage. If it is asleep or confused it might recover.
STATUS CHANGES some attacks cause the defending pokemon to be confused, asleep, poisoned or paralyzed. If a pokemon goes to the bench or evolved all status changes are eliminated. ASLEEP- can't attack or retreat, after each turn flip coin to see if it wakes, heads awake, tails asleep CONFUSED- to attack or retreat you must flip a coin to see if you are succesful PARALYZED- can't attack or retreat goes back to normal on players next turn POISONED- if poisoned place a poison marker on it to show it is poisoned, takes 10 damage after every turn |
