Picture of Isabella with her son John. Daughters Bell and Maggie are behind her. Here she is at a picnic wearing her widow's mutch.This was a white linen cap which had to be specially ironed with a goffering iron.
She had 7 children.
2. Alexander (1884 Balintore-1919 Aberdeen) m Jane Masson in Stirling in 1913 . Alex was a blacksmith who died of influenza in 1919 in Aberdeen during the pandemic after WWI. He had beautiful copperplate handwriting when at school.
They had 2 children:
They had 2 children:[a] a girl (me) who married and had 4 children and two grand-daughters and a grandson ;and [b] a boy [1945 Finchley - 2003 in Inverness ] who married and had two daughters
2. Another daughter,still living, who married and had 3 daughters , 6 grandchildren and 8 greatgrandchildren.
3.Christina Vass . Teenie's wedding day . She married a second cousin Andrew (Sandy) Ross of New Street, Shandwick who died in the Arabian Gulf on 1 July 1916. He was buried at Basra War Cemetery, Iraq.Teenie died of cancer of the liver. They had a son
Andrew Ross who died unmarried. He was awarded a medal for saving a drowning swimmer in Shandwick Bay.
4. Margaret Vass married Donald (Dan) Mitchell from Rockfield .Isabella had prevented them from getting married because she thought Maggie was too young at 18. So, Dan went off to America or Canada for years before returning to marry Maggie in 1926, when she was 38 or so. They were a very happy couple but they had no children. They died well into their 80s
5. Andrew Vass married Ethelredda Adams, from Wales. They had 5 children. He died in 1963. Ethel died aged over 90.
6.Isabella (Belle) Vass married William Gorman whom she met in Invergordon. They had 3 children.
7. John Vass . He had a short leg from tuberculosis. He trained as a tailor. He married Alice Graham who died quite young. They had 2 children. Then he married Jessie Thompson
4. Thomas Vass born 1855-1936 .He was a fish dealer ; but also had the reputation as a bonesetter. He lived in Shandwick and later in Park Street. He married Jessie Morrison [Shonie] and had 6 children:
