  55. UNTITLEDMAGAZINE Ever since Matthew Brady, photo journalists have posed a provocative challenge to their print colleagues. Relying on pictures to tell a story demolishes the fiction that print reporters perpetuate: that the words they choose depict—or at least distill—everything news worthy about the event covered. In contrast, a photo "journal" collects of discrete scenes captured from the camera's precise viewpoint; the photographer's role as judge and (in some cases) orchestrater couldn't be clearer. Moreover, good photo journalism becomes a transcendent art form in itself. For examples of why the genre both aggravates and compels, visit UM, an independently operated, nonprofit online magazine dedicated to the advancement and expression of photo journalism.

This site is written by a placement person to coach candidates, the first few paragraphs may not apply to you, but everything from the "dos and don'ts" section on down is useful.
  74. Quotez Tired of writing your own opening jokes--and spending the rest of your talk trying to shake your audience from a bewildered stupor? Unlike most quote sites on the Web--including the others we've covered in this series of tips--Quotez conveniently includes a link to 112 humorous quotes, so you don't have to comb through each quote to find the funny ones. Plus, this is the easiest-to-search collection we've seen thus far: Because the site's creators have indexed the quotes by topic, you don't have to know the exact words to find the quote you want. And for the attention-deficient among you, a random quote generator displays a new quote every ten seconds. Our favorite quote so far came from T.S. Eliot: "My name is only an anagram of toilets." New places will appear frequently and those that aren't maintained can disappear quickly, as a result this page is always under construction. Let us know if a link does not work, or if you have a site that you think should be added. Please check back often, and let us know what you think.
