The Emergency Medical Services Division has been the primary provider of pre-hospital care to the residents and visitors of the township since 1979 when the town fathers had determined that there was a need to insure quick and efficient delivery of emergency medical care.

Lakewood E.M.S. receives mutual aid assistance from the Lakewood Twp. Volunteers, Hatzolah, A.M.R. (formerly S.A.S.) and occasionally from the volunteer units of the communities that surround it.
