Last saturday was the first tournament held under the name Drakenslag in over 6 months. I recently took responsability for the forums and organized this tournament to try and keep things alive in the scene. I like to think of it in big terms like these, but the reality is I just like playing in tournaments and if no one else was gonna do it then I don't mind taking the responsability.
Things started off well enough with a very small contingent of CvS2 players finishing the first tournament of the day in under an hour. Only 5 players signed up and only 4 showed up. So, not impressive, eh? Well, I knew the facts a week before the day, but nothing could be done about that. I honestly am not very disappointed simply because I know the game has a very small following. Unfortunately, Third Strike has a larger player base but several players didn't show. Fortunately some players that hadn't signed up beforehand came so we ended up with 11 players. The tournament had to be finished relatively quickly because if it dragged on too long I'd have to use prize money to pay for the tv's we were renting. I was surprised that everyone accepted my tournament system without question since they're used to double elimination brackets. I find those to be very inefficient and they drag on so long. Before 3S was finished the 3 (yes you read correctly) players present for Guilty Gear AC started and finished their tournament. We packed up and gtfo of there using only 5 hours of game-time (6 actually, but they only charged 5).
Some of us walked into town to get some dinner. It was a fun day and I think everyone enjoyed it with the exception of a Belgian player who showed up after the GG tournament was over. I felt really bad about that, but the GG tournament winner gave him some gas money to try and make up for that. Mostly gg's to everyone, except me who sucked a big one at CvS2 that day. It was pretty shameful.
