Welcome into the family of GOD.
Because you have repented, confessed Jesus Christ as Lord and invited him into your life, you are "Saved". This means your past sins are now forgiven. You are no longer condemned. This is a joyous day, for the Bible teaches that there is great joy in Heaven over one sinner that has repented. (You can find this in Luke 15:3-7).
There are a few things you need to know:
- You may or may not feel anything. Some people have stated that they had some overwhelming feeling at the moment they repented and asked Jesus into their life. If you did that's great, but if you did not that is Ok too. The important thing to know is that, you have given your life to Christ.
- You are now "a child of God" (a.k.a. "saved"). Ok, what does this mean? Consider this: When you were born you received "natural" life from your parents (albeit a gift from God). When you accepted Jesus Christ as your savior you were 'adopted' into the family of God through Jesus and he brought you new life, a "spiritual" life, life from God. The Bible calls this the new birth (a.k.a. "born again" John 3:3-7). Notice this it's important: by your first birth you became a child of your earthly parents; by your second birth you became a child of God of your Heavenly Father.
- You now have two natures. (1) The old nature (the self-centered nature) and (2) the new nature (the Christ-centered nature). In order to have the new nature grow you need to find (if you don't already have one) a church home. It is in Church (Worship Service, Bible Study & Sunday school) that you will be surrounded by maturing Christians who can and will help you in your new life. Oh, just incase you may be wondering if attending Church is necessary, the Bible says not to forsake coming together (i.e. coming to Church) Hebrews 10:25. The answer is YES.
Here are some suggestions:
- Get your own copy of God's word (the Bible).
I suggest the "Authorized King James Version" (AKJV) with center column references or AKJV Study Bible. Also, if you don't get or have a study Bible be sure to obtain an additional translation of the Bible like "The New International Version" or "The Amplified Bible" or "the Living Bible".
- Get a spiral notebook about the size of your Bible. Use the notebook to make notes while you study, or take notes during a sermon.
- Get a writing utensil (pen or pencil) and keep it with your notebook and Bible. (I use a highlighter also).
- Establish a regular time to spend with God daily. Be consistent in meeting with God.
- There are at least three (3) things you should do while spending your time with God.
- Pray.
- Study his word (the Bible).
- Listen for his answers and directions.
God bless you and keep you, is my prayer for you. If there is any thing I can do to help or answer a question I can answer, please send me an E-mail message with your request.
Rejoice for this is the first day of the rest of your life!
