BMGT 3980: Marketing on the Internet (1). A study of the fields of marketing on the Internet.

Course Objectives: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • To explain the basic concepts of Marketing, the Internet, and the WWW.

  • To identify the most recent trends and issues facing organizations doing business on the Internet.

  • To describe the need to anticipate opportunities and threats in order to conduct business successfully on the Internet.

  • To identify and explain the important concepts and vocabulary related to marketing on the Internet.

  • To describe the scope and complexity of security on the Internet.

  • To describe Marketing, the Internet, and the WWW, as a communications medium.

Course Requirements:

Learning and Participation: Learning means being involved, participating, and enjoying the class. Participation is the degree to which a student makes a responsible effort to contribute to the threaded discussions in the WebTycho conferences.

Attendance: In distance education, attendance means participating. Participation is also a prime indicator of a student's interest and motivation. See Distance Education's attendance policy.

Text Readings: The course will include course notes to supplement the text. online discussions, and Web exercises. Course notes are designed to reinforce the text, to present additional material and real-world examples. Students are expected to keep up with the online activities and discussions by reading and completing the assignments during the Weekly Conferences.

Exams: The final exam will be based on the reading assignments and chapter notes. The test will consist of short answer questions and Web assignments. The test will be open book online.

Due to last minute changes for Term II, Academic Year 2000-2001, Smith's Web is not completely up-dated.

All completed exams and exercises/assignments will remain with me once submitted. Exams and assignments are maintained for 2 terms. Students should keep a back-up copy of all submissions and contribution comments due to the potential loss online.

This schedule is tentative and subject to change. I reserve the right to make changes to the schedule and/or the syllabus for the successful progress of the course. It is the student's responsibility to know if and when changes have been made to the syllabus and/or schedule by exploring the WebTycho classroom and by logging in to read the Class Announcements at least three times a week, starting on the Monday of each new Week.
