Virtual tour of the Ņina

This is the Niņa, a reproduction of one of Columbus' ships that sailed to the New World in 1492. Columbus used this ship as his personal vessel after the Santa Maria was "lost" in the new world. This reproduction is the most exact to what the real Niņa was like and was constructed in Brazil in 1992. The area where the modern Niņa was built is known for the local crafted boats as they are built in the manner that was used in the 15th century.

The ship's boat was used to ferry passengers and cargo in places were there was no developed harbor. This small boat was constructed much the same as the larger ship and was a final exam for the apprentice under the shipwright who then himself became as his mentor. This small craft is about the same length as the width of the ship and was hoisted aboard the Niņa and carried upsidedown across the rails of the ship.

This is a good view of the front or bow of the Niņa. Also shows the anchor hanging from the starboard rail. Lets go aboard and take a look around. Click here to board the Ņina.
