I like to follow chess (NOTE just follow ;-), i play very poorly) events around the world, especially from The Hindu which covers chess very well and from Chathurangam.com which covers indian chess events and players (especially chennai ones).

My favourite players are
Ofcourse Anand , called as Vishy in chess circle. He singlehandedly generated so much interest in chess in india is amazing. I was more than thrilled when he won the world championship in 2001, it made my day.
Now in men from india Sasikiran , Harikrishna - an andhra prodigy are more than promising.

In women first WGM of india and such a fighting spirit beating top men in indian tournaments is Vijayalakshmi known as 'Viji' by all. What anand did to chess in general in india Viji did it to women's chess.
Koneru Humpy is another one i follow closely, not just because she might become the youngest girl who will become men's GM of the world, and won all the girls category world championships including world junior championship, but also she happens to be first cousin of my best-friend ravikiran. If she keeps improves like the way she does she'll become a world champion of women no doubt.
During Women's B tournament in bangalore i went along with my friend ravi i saw viji, humpy. That time i didn't realise that these women are going to be creating history - i shd've got an autograph :-(.
Aarthie happens to be another favourite of mine. She was world-under-18 champion for girls few years back. Recently i came to know that she's a cousin of my brother in law. Small world huh (!!). Although i can proudly go on claiming she's my relative she may not be enthusiased to know such a relative of hers ;-). She represents Indian team in olympiad along with Viji.
Meenakshi is another promising women in indian chess, younger sister of Viji. She's also part of indian team.
