On Saturday, June 17th, 2000, I had the honor of attending a show that Anekdoten put on at NEARFest at the beautiful Zoellner Arts Center, located on the Lehigh University campus in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, USA. This was the second time I had seen, not long after their third album came out so by the time I saw them, I was very familiar with the material on all their albums.
My pictures at NEARFest came out pretty well but now I'm becoming to realize that my scanner (a Mustek 600 III EP Plus) sucks and doesn't do justice to the photos. I only paid about $120 for the scanner so I guess I shouldn't have expected too much. I used the same camera I used the first time I saw Anekdoten (a Nikon "Zoom Touch" 500) but I used the flash in all the photos and was prepared with 800 speed film. Unlike the first show, there weren't any photos I didn't like enough to pay for but I didn't scan them all because they weren't varied enough.
Left to right: Jan Erik Liljeström (bass, voice), Nicklas Berg (guitar, keyboards, voice), Peter Nordins (percussion), Anna Sofi Dahlberg (keyboards, cello, voice). Anna is playing cello in this shot - she switches a lot between cello and keyboards.
Another wide shot of the band, this time with Anna at the keyboards.
A shot of just Anna on cello, a very interesting instrument! Unlike a traditional cello, this is much thinner, almost like a skeleton. I imagine amplification is a requirement.
Here's an excellent shot of Anna playing the cello, from an angle I couldn't possibly reach.
A shot of Jan Erik wailing on the bass and singing.
Jan Erik, Peter (behind the drums), and Nicklas.
Nicklas on keyboards (notice he doesn't bother to take the guitar off, so transitions are faster), Anna on cello.
NEARFest is a two day event and Anekdoten played the next to last on the first day so they weren't really around much on Saturday for people to meet. On Sunday they met fans and sold merchandise. I took the opportunity to get a shot of me with the group!
Me, Nicklas, Peter, Anna, and Jan Erik.
Come here for more photos of Anekdoten.
