Integral and Fractional Parts

frac (+1.2) = +0.2         int (+1.2) = +1
frac (+1.7) = +0.7         int (+1.7) = +1

frac (-1.2) = -0.2         int (-1.2) = -1
frac (-1.7) = -0.7         int (-1.7) = -1

int(x) + frac(x) = x; no matter if x < 0 or x >= 0

Trigonometric functions

sin(x + y) = sin(x)cos(y) + cos(x)sin(y)
sin(x - y) = sin(x)cos(y) - cos(x)sin(y)

Casting

To cast a int, long, double type etc. to a String type you have to use:

double i = (-123.427);
String i_string;

i_string = String.valueOf( i ) ;   // 1st solution
i_string = "" + i;                       // 2nd solution

Cholesterol and the difference between good and bad cholesterol

Cholesterol is a type of fat that your body produces and is also found in foods that come from animal sources (meat and diary products, poultry, and fish).

Your body’s cells need cholesterol to function properly but excess cholesterol can build up inside your arteries, which can cause them to narrow. This can lead to heart or circulation problems.

Cholesterol travels through your bloodstream attached to proteins called lipoproteins-low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and high-density lipoprotein (HDL). LDL, also known as the bad cholesterol carries cholesterol from the liver to other parts of your body.

Too much LDL may cause excess cholesterol to build up on the walls of your arteries and it can block blood flow to your organs – which can lead to heart attack, stroke, or kidney failure. Your good cholesterol, or HDL, fights against this buildup by picking up LDL cholesterol in your bloodstream and taking it back to your liver for disposal.

Missing or switched drive letters in Windows NT when HDD or ZIP drives are added

When adding a new HDD or a ZIP drive to your computer (HW or SW) and then removing it, in Windows NT (I am not aware if this is happening also under 2000) it is quite possible to find out that some drives (letters) on your computer are missing and/ or switched.

1. If the allocated letters are changed (ZIP or CD ROM with HDD drives), the only simple way is to shut down the PC, unplug the drive (ZIP or CD ROM), restart Windows. Now the letters of your HDD (if more than one or partitioned) are back in normal. Then shut down again the PC, plug back the ZIP or CD ROM and restart the PC. It should work!

2. If some drives are missing (especially some logical drives - partitions) open Programs/ Administrative Tools/ Disk Administrator/ View/ Disk Configuration. Now the missing drive should appear (only the letter). Right click and select "Assign drive letter". Put your letter and it should work. If the drive is back but still the letters are switched, perform also point 1.

Definitions and structure

There are three levels of technology positions available

A brief introduction to technical resource types is warranted to explain the industry’s use of resources in delivering business.

Engineers vs. Consultants

The primary difference between an engineer and a consultant is their experience.

Engineer: An engineer’s background tends to be very deep technically within a field or discipline. One example of an engineer is a person who deals exclusively with routers and WAN connectivity. That person may not have any experience in NT networking or SNA connectivity.

Consultant: A consultant’s background tends to be broader across the industry. An example of a consultant would be a person who understands the business needs of an IT department from infrastructure to NT services to help desk issues to change management procedures. That person may or may not be able to deal with very difficult or involved technology at an implementation level but will be able to identify the need for an engineering resource to deliver the solution.

U.S.A.

United States of America, popularly referred to as the United States or as America, a federal republic on the continent of North America, consisting of 48 contiguous states and the 2 non-contiguous states of Alaska and Hawaii . Outlying areas include Puerto Rico, American Samoa, Guam, and the US Virgin Islands .

The conterminous 48 states are bounded on the north by Canada, on the east by the Atlantic Ocean, on the south by the Gulf of Mexico and Mexico, and on the west by the Pacific Ocean. The northern boundary is partly formed by the Great Lakes and the St Lawrence River; the southern boundary is partly formed by the Rio Grande. New York is the largest city in the United States. Washington, D.C., is the capital.

US flag The U.S. flag is composed of 7 Red and 6 White Stripes, 50 Stars on a field of Blue.

50-Star Flag: Executive Order of President Eisenhower dated August 21, 1959 - provided for the arrangement of the stars in nine rows of stars staggered horizon tally and eleven rows of stars staggered vertically.

The (7 + 6) stripes represent all initial founding colonies. Each of the 13 founding Colonies was represented by one star and 1 stripe (1st flag on June 14th, 1777).

The total area of the United States (including the District of Columbia) is 9,629,047 sq km (3,717,796 sq mi), of which 1,593,438 sq km (615,230 sq mi) are in Alaska and 16,729 sq km (6,459 sq mi) are in Hawaii. Inland, coastal, and Great Lakes bodies of water cover 470,129 sq km (181,518 sq mi) of the total area. Measured along the parallel of latitude that passes through West Quoddy Head, Maine, the easternmost point in the United States, the maximum width of the conterminous 48 states is about 4,421 km (2,747 mi). The maximum length measured from the vicinity of Brownsville, Texas, due north to the Canadian frontier is about 2,572 km (1,598 mi). Mount McKinley, or Denali (6,194 m/20,320 ft), in Alaska, is the highest point in North America; Death Valley, a depression 86 m (282 ft) below sea level, in California, is the lowest point.

Buying books at low prices

Well, there are a few choices:

1. Discounts due to special seasons or holidays
2. Stores that will get out of business
3. Internet stores (with or without coupons)
4. Used books store (most of them on the Internet)
5. Internet auction places for new or used books

A tip that could help you is the following: if someone (a store or person) is selling a book and states that the book has a "black mark on bottom of book" that means that the book was sold at a very low price by the publishing house due to some printing problems such as: faded ink, very small page left margin etc. (however, it seems that, generally, no pages are missing and the book is in a quite O.K. condition).
