How Much is a Galleon Worth

1 Galleon = 17 Sickles

1 Sickle = 29 Knutes

From the Forward of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them $250,000,000 American equals 34,000,872 Galleons, 14 Sickles, and 7 Knutes. That means that:
1 Galleon = $7.35
1 Sickle = $0.43
1 Knute = 1.5 cents

However, both Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Quidditch Through the Ages cost $3.99 or 14 Sickles and 3 Knute, or 409 Knutes. That means that:
1 Galleon = $4.81
1 Sickle = $0.28
1 Knute = 1 cent

So how much is a Galleon worth, that's still a mystery of the wizarding world. Remember, Hagrid asked Harry to pay only one Kunte for the Daily Prophet, delivered by Owl Post at the Hut on the Rock. That's pretty good for even 1.5 cents. Or was that just a tip for the owl, and the subsciption, with delivery was already paid? The problem with this is it's the only time I've seen an owl take money?

When asked "What is the approximate value of a galleon?" JK Rowling said, "About five pounds, though the exchange rate varies!", Comic 3-2001
