Singapore ONE Supporting the vision that information technology will redefine lifestyles, reinvent work and leisure, and power the economic engine, is the recently launched Singapore ONE - a nationwide community focused service delivered via a rapidly expanding high-capacity broadband fibre-optic and cable-based network.  When fully operational in 1988, the government hopes to have all 800,000 homes, as well as schools and businesses connected to Singapore ONE using ADSL and cable modems with 5-8 Mbps upstream and 1Mbps downstream bandwidth.

local ISPs

Singapore's three authorised InterNet Service Providers (SingNet, CyberWay and Pacific Internet) provide international connections via Singapore's aggregated 25Mbps circuits to USA and Japan - there is a plan to install a T3 this year. Statistics from earlier this year showed Singapore had 150,000 users and rising (amongst Singapore's total population of 3 million, where 1 in 3 homes have computers, and modems are sold with every new computer.  With 100 PCs per school (in 200 schools), all schools will soon be connected to the InterNet.  The ".com" domain was the fastest growing domain with a total of  2,500 registered servers.
