v. 1.0
Note: The guidelines here are not meant to be absolute. They merely provide approximate qualitative criteria for measuring performance in lab exercises.
Each lab exercise is graded over 10 points regardless of its difficulty.
grade |
indication |
---|---|
10 (A) |
completion of the lab exercise to a high degree of academic performance as shown by both an intelligent grasp and superior critical appreciation of the lab exercise as may be demonstrated by intelligent and insightful answers during the lab exercise evaluation, detailed mastery of the work involved in doing the exercise, and a well-written lab report showing a very systematic approach to the lab exercise |
8 (B) |
completion of the lab exercise to a degree above satisfactory performance as shown by both an intelligent grasp and rudimentary critical appreciation of the lab exercise as may be demonstrated by intelligent and insightful answers during the lab exercise evaluation, detailed mastery of much of the work involved in doing the exercise, and a well-written lab report showing a systematic approach to the lab exercise |
6 (C) |
satisfactory performance in the lab exercise as shown by a fairly intelligent grasp of the exercise as may be demonstrated by fairly intelligent answers during the lab exercise evaluation, sufficient knowledge of the work involved in doing the exercise, and a coherent lab report |
5 (D) |
passing appreciation of the lab exercise as may be demonstrated by marginally correct answers during the lab exercise evaluation, rudimentary knowledge of the work involved in doing the exercise, and a minimally coherent lab report |
0 - 4 (F) |
failure to complete the lab exercise; 0 is given if no lab report has been submitted by the set deadline; 1 to 4 pts is given for varying degrees of failing to complete the exercise; grades in this range are also given to one who is unable to answer basic questions regarding the lab exercise, describes procedures of the exercise incorrectly, or submits a disorganized, incoherent lab report |
Grades of 7 (C+) and 9 (B+) are given in instances where there is difficulty distinguishing between 6 and 8 or 8 and 10.
