Love & Rockets #30 Significance: Ninety-three Million Miles from the Sun Notes (to expand further): Part 2 of Poison River Relevance/Notes: This issue begins the sequence of issues of the Hernandez work that features without a doubt the most collective gay and lesbian content show throughout the entire run. It begins with the reunion between lesbian lovers Maggie and Hopey in this issue's Ninety-three Million Miles from the Sun. It continues through the end of the "Wigwam Bam" storyline as well as the introduction of Luba's husband Peter Rio in Gilbert Hernandez's "Poison River" and "Love and Rockets" storyline, which both begin next issue. Follows up on: The last time both brothers featured this much gay content in their collective storylines was in those issues that were reprinted in TCLaR book Duck Feet, issues #17-19, along with one story from the Love & Rockets special Bonanza. Collective relevance rating (not average) for issues #30-39: 8.5 31 Significance: Introduction of gay/bi characters Blas and Salas, Mike and Kristen Niznick, and Maya. Continuation of the story of runaway lovers Maricela and Riri, who left Palomar because of the homophobia of Maricela's mother Luba. Notes (to expand further): Part 3 of Poison River 32 Love & Rockets Bonanza 1 (Mar) Significance: Contains a 6 page story which shows us a glimpse at the childhood of Israel Diaz, one of the many Palomar characters, but definitely the only bisexual male character. First: Sable #14 (Apr) Significance: Grey appears in an X-mas tale; he mentions that although he was lucky enough to have his parents accept his sexuality, friends of his weren't, and so he will spend the holidays with them, celebrating their own makeshift family. Sable #20 (Oct), 21 (Nov) Significance: Grey returns, and in style. There is a major gay themed storyline in issue #21 in which a gay espionage agent (or something) tricks Grey into falling in love with him in order to get a head up on Jon Sable. HMI: Tales of the Closet #4 Thoughts and Images: The Desert Peach #2 (Feb) Significance: This issue is where we first find out that Pfirsich is engaged, though we don't find out his name till a later issue. 3 (Aug)
