Scene 1 – Boy Doesn’t Meet Boy
His last name does get mentioned now, but it just never registers with me since during his hit TV show gig on Boy Meets Boy he was known only as “James.” You’d think that James is still looking to meet a boy, but he isn’t, and I’ll tell you why in a minute. What’s he been up to? He told me recently in an exclusive interview with Notes From Hollywood.
He just finished shooting a movie! “It’s about a telemarketing company. I play a Hollywood star who comes to this office as a motivational speaker to kind of bring some life to these employees,” explained James. “It’s very funny. My character, in the process, discovers what it’s like to be a real person again. That’s his arc. It’s really sweet. I cry a lot.”
Was it difficult for him to cry on cue, I asked?
“I thought it was going to be very tough,” James answered. “Actually, I had a hard time kind of curtailing my crying. I couldn’t get through the scenes without being hysterical, which is very bizarre for me. I was so emotional I couldn’t get through it.” Surprisingly, he added, “It’s a comedy, but it has some serious points in it. It’s mostly funny.”

James is about to head to New York for an appearance in another independent film, but did you know he spent three months there as a cast member of My Big Gay Italian Wedding? Did he have aspirations to act before Boy Meets Boy? “Not like this,” he explained. “My goals are in theater, musical theater mostly. That was kind of my history, music and theater.”
Being in New York served James well. “I met with all of the casting people in New York, agents and casting directors, and my sights right now are set on, as bizarre as this is…I’m focusing all of my energy on getting the role of Fiero in Wicked when it tours nationally, so that’s what I’m working on…something on Broadway anyway.”
I asked James if he has any romance in his life. “No. I’ve just been too busy,” explained James. “I’ve been traveling all year. I’ll wait until I’m home and I can settle down. There’s no reason for me to try to look for love in other cities. I’m just not a long distance kind of guy.”
“What about looking for fun in other cities”, I asked. “That’s not my style either. I wish it was. I’m just too busy. Believe me, I wish I could,” James explained honestly.
I always like to end an interview with this question: “Is there anything you would like to add that I haven’t evoked with a question?
“I’m just very happy and proud that I’m continuing on this journey in promoting tolerance and quality and gay television, gay programming. It’s wonderful, and I’m very honored to have a voice in this world,” responded James.
