Human Genome Organizations
Here are listed both private and public groups that are of the
most importance in genomic research or simply genomics. The sequencing,
cataloging and comparing of the genomes of various species give us a much
deeper insight into the evolutionary relationships in nature. It
also can help us identify and locate the functions of our own genes so
that they may be fixed by gene therapy.
This is a private and very impressive organization that rapidly
sequences, analyses and downloads the entire genomes of many smaller organisms
as well as human genes. The founder is the discoverer of the contig
mapping system that is employed in this mapping strategy.
GenomicsOne is a private company that sells rapid sequencing equipment
for genomic research. A news story from InfoBeat
suggests that the company has a bright future ahead.
The NCBI is a national repository for all kinds of genetic and genomic
data. It is extremely useful and important to genomic researchers.
It contains the Online Mendalian
Inheritance In Man (OMIM) for the human genome and GenBank
which includes all genes sequenced by NIH grants
HuGO is the international umbrella organization that coordinates the genomic
efforts of researchers worldwide.
This Swedish institute does much work both in neuroregenerative research
and in genetics and has an excellent Laboratory of Molecular Neurobiology
in which the two fields intersect. Their genomic and genetic library
is also excellent and has many useful links to other online resources.
