South Korean scientists claim human clone
A South Korean medical team claims it has succeeded in cloning human cells for the second time in history.
The team from Seoul's Kyunghee University says it successfully cultivated a four-cell embryo by taking a woman's ovum and replacing its nucleus with genetic material from one of her cells.
It says the egg was successfully induced to divide into four cells, completing the cloning process, but was NOT implanted back in the woman's womb.
This follows a 1993 resolution by South Korean medical doctors NOT to implant genetically-engineered human embryos.
The team says the achievement is the second in the world after British researchers claimed they had succeeded in a similar experiment.
