Avigo Development Page
By: Ray Broniak
Well, it looks like TI has finally made the right decision in regard
to software support for their new organizer product the AVIGO. If you've never
seen one, go to their page at
http://www.ti.com/avigo to check it out. It's a really
neat organizer, a lot like the Palm Pilot - but better in some ways. And now the device can be purchased for only $99.95! But go to the
TI Website to check it out - you'll find out more about it there.
What I'm trying to promote is third party software developement for AVIGO...
Even though TI has now released the SDK for the Avigo, you can still write programs
for the organizer with your own compiler if you want.
Many programmers, myself included, have written several programs
for the device in assembler. We've already discovered many of
the operating system calls for the display, pen/keyboard, and
sound rouitines.
I'm posting these program applications and the source code I
used to develope them. I'm hoping this will inspire other computer programmer types
to find there own system routines in the AVIGO and share them with the rest of
us, so we can start some third party software for the device.
Take a look at these simple applications, download them to your AVIGO
with the AVIGO MANAGER software that comes with AVIGO. Let me know what you think...
I hope more people will try to support this new device from TI. Maybe we will give
Palm Pilot some competition!!
Downloads...
I can't be held responsible for what these programs might do to the rest
of the programs in your AVIGO. It would probably be a good idea to back
up any information you have in the organizer with the AVIGO MANAGER software
before you try these or any other application in your AVIGO. So BACKUP FIRST!
then tryout the programs...
DOWNLOAD - The "MEMORY SHOW" application and ASM files
DOWNLOAD - The "HELLO WORLD AGAIN!" application and ASM files
DOWNLOAD - The "RANDOM NUMBER" application and text file
Here are some
SCREENSHOTS of some of the applications!
Blackjack
Here is a Blackjack game that I started. But since there
is already another one available I decided to stop writing
it. Take a look, what do you think?
Freecell
I'm finished programming the Freecell game, and it's definately been worth it! This game will provide hours of fun for all Avigo
users. Here is the shareware version, go check it out!
Magic Eightball!
Here is the clasic decision maker! It's freeware
so download it and enjoy!
Taipei
It's finally here! Ian Rowling's newest game application for
the Avigo. And its been well worth the wait. You can download
the shareware version right here and now. Be sure to contact
Ian to get the registered version.
Avigo Clock
Here is another application from Ian. It
tells the time and has some other neat features too!
View the World!
I'm happy to see other programmers who are
starting to write Avigo Apps. This program was submitted by
Martin Lorang, it's a Global Viewer! Check it out!
I've had many programmers ask me what assembler I've been using to compile these
Avigo programs. I usually point them to the place where I found the programs, but
now it seems that the site is no longer in service. So I'm placing the programs
here so anyone can get a copy and start their own programs for the Avigo.
Lateset News...
I've sorry about not updating this site more often, but I've
been side-tracked from my Avigo projects lately... But there
have been a lot of exciting Avigo news. Avigos for $99.95 are
available from Office Max and TI, so now there is no excuse
NOT to own one! Check out
Tom Hoots Avigo site for the latest!
The SDK is comming!!
TI has annouced that they are finally releasing a software
development kit for Avigo. Go to their website and check it
out!
GOOD NEWS!!
Texas Instruments has finally decided to release some information about the
Avigo API. Bob Pospick said it should be available on the Avigo site in a few
days, but you can download it HERE right now!! I'm glad
we now have some good information to start some serious development. Unfortunately
we're all still waiting for the AVIGO SDK to become available - or even just
some OS information would be nice...
A special "thanks" to all the programmers who have contacted me about this
project. I've written to several persons and everyone is real exited about
programming the AVIGO.
Links to AVIGO sites...
Here are a few of the people who are leading the way for AVIGO development!
Ollivier Civiol's AVIGO site
- Olliver just opened up his own web site for Avigo Applications, and already has three exciting programs to check out!
Robert "E" Lender's
AVIGO site - Robert's site is located in Austria so it is mostly in German,
but he still has a lot of good information for people with AVIGO organizers.
Tom's Avigo Pages
- Take a look at Tom's Avigo site, he has some good reviews and information
to check out..
The Gadgeteer's AVIGO review
- This review is by Julie Strietelmeier. She has some good comparisons to the
Palm Pilot and other organizers.
Mobilis Magazine's Avigo Review
- John Jerney of Mobilis Magazine has just finished a review for TI's Avigo
in the February Issue. Take a look and see if Avigo is right for you!
See you soon...
Be sure to come back from time to time and check for more AVIGO apps. We've come a long way in just a few months, but maybe
there will be more third party apps for Avigo very soon.
Stay tuned to this channel for more developments! That's all for now...
Thanks - Ray Broniak
