My Lotus seed project.
The lotus seeds that decided to grow were the Nelumbo Nucifera, also known
as the Sacred Lotus.
The first step in propogating the seeds is you have to shave a spot on the SIDE of the seed.
I have also heard that people use a drill and make holes in the side of the seed. The important
thing is that you somehow remove part of the outer seed coat on the side of the seed.
If you try doing something to the tip or butt of the seed you could damage the acutal plant,
therefore killing the seed. I used sandpaper (100grit I think). In doing this, water can
begin soaking into the seed, begining its propogation.
It is important to change the water at least once a day. Keeping them at warm temperature with
plenty of light is also key. In a short week the seed will not only double in size, but it will
crack open and it will start sprouting!
