Richmond, Virginia
Richmond is a wonderful town.
It is absolutely rife with
history.
Patrick Henry gave his "Give me liberty or give me death"
speech here at St. John's Church.
Thomas Jefferson designed the state capitol building.
Edgar Allan Poe grew up here.
There are many Civil War battlefields in the vicinity.
I even used to work in an old movie theatre that is a Virginia and National Historic Landmark - when they talk about movie palaces they mean places like the Byrd Theatre.
Actually, all of Virginia is chock full of places of historical significance. This may have a lot to do with why I was crazy enough to major in history ... that, and the fact that history is about people (who are endlessly fascinating - albeit infuriating at times) and it actually allows me to incorporate other interests (literature, art, music) as well !
Richmond even has its own dialect. Check it out.
