Keeping track.
To keep track of progress, I have started to record my daily mileage. Programmers don't like to crunch numbers for amusement. That's what accountants are for. But, if the process of number crunching involves some interesting problem solving, that's another story. With that in mind, I will try to put together a variety of stats in addition to just mileage. And perhaps perform a few equations.

Stretch 'n stretch out.
Today was a day off from running, but a day to start stretching. Numerous message boards and web sites explained some popular stretches for runners.
Runner's World has some good resources in their Health & Fitness section. I also learned it was not a good idea to stretch without warming up first. Does walking to the refrigerator count?

Shoe ... fly.
Today the shoes arrived. As I've mentioned before (
March 31), they have both stability and cushioning. I went with the Nike brand, because their omnipresent advertising has convinced me they are they best. Why would TV lie to me? Ok, so I'm supposed to be listening to the Internet for my running advice. In that case, a better bet would be Saucony or New Balance. Those are a couple of recommended shoe brands that were suggested on message boards. But hey, Nike was the goddess of victory.

Low Mileage
What is preventing me from hibernating indoors instead of going out to run? Apparently not much. Illustrating this point is the one mile I ran today. Normally my outing consists of three miles of on and off running. This takes a lot out of me. I suppose most runners have numerous things going on in their lives, dancing around in their heads. It's hard to keep focus on an activity that demands so much of one's time and energy. I envy those who can manage to balance their life and their running. But, wouldn't it be nice if it were running that brought balance to one's life.

Quick thought for the day: Watch out for mailboxes when running. They're devious.

The Realization
This charade couldn't last forever. It would be something else if an out-of-shape tech-head started training in 2000 and made it to the Olympics. The Trial of Miles seemed like a good idea a couple months ago, but not anymore. This will just have to be another untold story.

A few steps would have to occur for someone to make it to the Olympics, so Miles' odds were not very good of making it. Refer to Qualifying for the 2000 Olympics .

The End?
