Classical Gravity

Einstein's General Relativity theory describes the gravitational force in terms of curvatures of spacetime. A lot of work has been done on this theory for most of the XX th. century and a lot of work is still being done now.

What I am interested in is to study this theory in its limiting cases, near the conditions where it breaks down and we need another, quantum theory of gravity. Those limiting situations occur near the singularity in Black Holes, the first moments of the Universe, and the world of the very microscopic particles.

Here are the subtopics I am most interested in studying.

• Degenerate metrics in the formalisms of Palatini and Ashtekar.
• Antisymmetric metrics in the formalisms of Palatini and Ashtekar.
• Extended gravity. Models of gravity obtained by generalising the metric or by adding new fields (mainly the ones suggested by String Theory).
