I was born on the 06/06/1966 (what makes me 35 now), what is very convenient, since I am not very good in remembering dates. I don´t think I am the beast. If I am, I was born in the wrong country and have the wrong religion.
Originally, I and my wife are from São Paulo, which is the largest city in Brazil and one of the largest (third) in the world. There I did my degree in Physics at the University of São Paulo (USP), completed in 1987, and also my M.Sc. (1990) in the Department of Mathematical Physics (FMA) of the same university. Then I went to the University of Cambridge, where I obtained a Certificate of Advanced Study in Mathematics (1991). Following that, I went to King´s College London, University of London, where I obtained a Ph.D. in Mathematics (1995). Then I returned to the University of São Paulo, where I stayed for one year as a post-doc and then became a lecturer at the State University of Santa Catarina (1996), in Joinville, southern Brazil, a medium sized industrial city of German colonization. After getting married (1999), I and my wife moved to São Bento do Sul, a small twon near Joinville. We were introduced by a common friend, and before we met for the first time, we had already talked by telephone for more than 6 hours, non-stop.
I also have other interests besides science: I like to read (mainly science fiction, to my wife´s dismay), play computer games and watch films. For those who like dogs, I have two: a female named Laika and a male poodle called Black.
