PhD Thesis — Peter Iliopoulos

Studies of O– and S–Bridging Binucleating Ligands and their Transition Metal Complexes
(Monash University, Department of Chemistry, 1987)

This work advanced the understanding of magnetostructural correlations around bridging metals in binuclear metal centres, examples of which may be found in metalloenzymes. A significant synthetic component involved the preparation of new organic ligands and their transition metal complexes based on copper, nickel and zinc with specific structural properties. A range of advanced instrumental techniques was utilised in support of the synthetic work, including IR, UV/VIS, NMR, ESR, MS, AAS, variable temperature magnetic susceptibility and crystal structure determinations.

Examples of organic compounds and metal complexes synthesized, where M=Cu, Ni or Zn
