Welcome to the world of HOT WHEELS collecting
When I was around 12 years old, my cousin Bobby and I used to kid around with my younger brother Mark about his little toy cars. He would take great care in preserving and keeping his cars to the point we thought it silly. Our grandfather apparently encouraged Mark to do this  after sharing his new cars with him one day, so grandpa said to him,
"Those might be worth something someday". Well, guess who's laughing nowadays, and it isn't yours truly. HOT WHEELS collecting has risen to a point that in October 1999, a private Washington D.C., collector paid an enormous sum of over $72,000 for a single PINK VW Beach Bomb model! How times have changed.

Why are HOT WHEELS cars such a good collectible?
1. It is easy to get a collection started, they're everywhere.
2. They offer a challenge to the serious collector, there are over 3000 variations
3. They are relatively easy to describe and catalogue, they can be tailored to specific type.
4. The oldest HOT WHEELS cars are over thirty years old, favoring the 40 to 60 age groups income.
5. HOT WHEELS models display well and they take up very little space.
6. These vehicles are easily bought and sold with an established market should you trade or sell.
7. They are an excellent investment yielding 20% per year since 1987 and rising.
8. This hobby is under-publicized rendering excellent finds at garage sales and flea markets.
9. There are still "low or limited run" vehicles that are prized by collectors.
10. And finally, "It's fun and relatively inexpensive" except the PINK Beachbomb!
