this is a list of books which give additional information to macromedia products, multimedia and webdesign. i do not know all of them personally but most of them are reviewed on their related amazon page to which i provided links.

i rated some of the books:
indicates that i think this book is particularly good for beginners.
is for books which are advanced references. some books fulfill both criteria.

be aware that some of the books might not be out yet.

Authorware

Authorware 5 Attain Authorized - Macromedia - ISBN 020135411X

The Ultimate Authorware Tutorial - Various - ISBN 3540641238
not exactly a beginners book, it does not tell you how to arrange icons along the flowline. however, this is something you might easily figure out with the Authorware manual anyway. this book goes straight into the issues that might bother you after that: using variables and functions, activeX components, web packaging, datatbases...

Director 7 Demystified - Jason Roberts, Phil Gross - ISBN 0201354454
for me the best learning book. don't be frightend by it's thickness. you can jump over the details of e.g. how to use the paint window and come back to it when you need it. and a big part of the book is Lingo reference anyway. the power of this book is that it guides you systematically to an understandig of Lingo, answering step by step exactly the questions that you might have
getting deeper into Director.

Lingo in a Nutshell - Bruce A. Epstein - ISBN 1565924932
a very good reference for advanced users. even though it is still on Director 6 standard it covers a lot of otherwise barely documented topics, giving you full lists of keys, keycodes etc. while you might be able to find your way around newer lingo functions and dot syntax with the manual or other books anyway, this one provides you with still valid info you hardly find anywhere else.
