Saarupya Mukti

(Immersing in God’s consciousness )

"Always having the form of God in mind, you become the son of the king that is prince - a prince to be crowned at God’s palace, situated at the city of Mukti. Then you wear prince’s dress and go around the empire. This is called Saarupya Mukti.

In Saalokya Mukti - one is always with God. Saamipya Mukti is experiencing the greatness of God everywhere. If one immerses in God’s consciousness, it is Saarupya Mukti."

--- 'Prema Vahini'

--Sri Sathya Sai Baba

1

DEFINITION OF PREMA BHAKTI

Besides being always with the Lord and realising all that they see as the glory of the Lord, if one is immersed in God’s thought it is Saarupya Mukti. This is the final result mentioned in Bhakti scriptures like ‘Prema Vahini’ authored by Sri Sathya Sai Baba.

As said above, if one practices Prema Bhakti and attains the final goal of Saarupya Mukti then his life itself will be an example of Prema bhakti. I have seen this with my own eyes in my personal life itself. When one is always with the thought of the Lord, He too will always be with him. I have attained this state in which I can’t live even for a second without the thought of the Lord.

Now God Himself explains Prema Bhakti. A practioner making himself mad, makes God also mad. This is the climax of Prema Bhakti. Only when such climax comes, we get literature like Gita Govindam. Jayadeva writes about the aspirations of Krishna for Radha, "Chaaru sheelay! Priya Chaaru sheelay! Keep your lotus feet on my head; your thought-fire burns me like anything." Sri Krishna lamented that Radha’s prema was so powerful that made Krishna mad. Such an incident happened in my life also.

Once sage Agasthya and his wife Lopamudra gave me darshan in meditation. I prostrated before them. They sprinkled their holy Kamandalu water on my head and told me to ask for some boon. I asked the following :

"Swami, I cry, yearn and aspire for God for the past 35 years. I suffer at the thought of the Lord. God should also yearn, aspire and become mad after me; then only He will realise me".

The sage gave the boon saying, "Let it be so." Later I forgot this matter. One day I received a letter from G. Venkataraman from Viruthachalam. He wrote that Swami had made him awake at midnight and told him to write a letter to me, but he refused to write saying that he had already written a letter the previous day. Even then Swami requested G.V. to write one more letter, G.V. wrote the following in his letter. "Swami has become mad after you. At midnight 12.00 P.M. He has awakened me from the sleep and told me to write this letter. Traditionally, only we should aspire for God’s prema, but here in your case prema is showered by Baba Himself."

I have received many letters like this from G.V. He told Swami, "Swami! Very often you ask me to write to Vasantha and Dr. Kothandapani. Don’t you have any other devotees except these two?"

Swami replied that He had become mad after these two. This is Prema Bhakti. Here---after let us see some of the evidences concerned with these things. My conversations with Baba are given below :

Swami : It is your prema that bestows you such a power. Prema for the Lord is more powerful than the Lord Himself. This power only gives you such a skill. I have nothing with Me. That is why, I am defeated on many occasions.

Vasantha: From today morning I was immersed in reading ‘Aanmeeham’ (a monthly magazine), so I have forgotten you Swami! Has my mind become a stone?

Swami : When did you forget? Even in the magazine you read about Me alone. You were thinking only about Me. You will not forget Me even for a single second. I too will not forget you. Don’t cry. You should be laughing, not crying. Those who have to cry are laughing. I laugh at the world when I think of it.

Vasantha : Why so Swami?

Swami : That is all maya (illusion).

Vasantha: Why do I cry Swami? Is this also illusion?

Swami : This is not illusion. You cry because of your inability to control and because of your infinite prema. Illusion won’t attach you, when I am near you.

Vasantha: When Narada Maharishi himself feared and worshipped Maya, where am I? Swami, just like Narada, am I doing Japam and Meditation?

Swami : Who told you to do them?

Vasantha: I can’t have peace without japam and meditation. I get peace only when I talk to you. I know not what to tell for this overflowing prema. My mind always wants Your nearness and love.

Swami : That is Radha.

Vasantha: I won’t believe Swami! Not even a blade of grass will move without You. You are the indweller and director of all. How can (Radha’s) my prema increase without your prema?

Swami : If it is so, this prema should overflow in everyone! Why is it not so? Whether all of them are like you? Boundless sincerity, complete surrender, unshakable faith, devotion without attachment to the fruit (result) are essential for this.

Vasantha: Swami! you told me that half of Your energy is spent in consoling me alone. But my prema alone is your energy. When my (Radha’s) energy feeds your energy (the energy of Goddess herself), how would that energy be spent?

Swami : How is it that your speak so skillfully?

Vasantha: For this (skill and cleverness) too, you are the tutor, Swami! Already You have told in a discourse that Narahari behaved skillfully to escape from Prahlada. God is more skillful than anybody else. Therefore this too is Lord’s grace only.

Swami : It is your prema that bestows you such a power. Prema towards God is more powerful than God Himself. It is this energy that gives power to you. I have nothing with Me. That is why I am defeated by you many times.

Vasantha: Even for fun sake don’t say so, Swami! Only I should be defeated; you should always win. Swami! why am I not able to do japam and meditation?

Swami : Why do you worry about japam and meditation? Why do you do them like a machine in a particular place and time? Tell me the purpose of japam and meditation.

Vasantha: To attain the Lord.

Swami : You have already attained Him, is it not? In that case what is the need for these japam and meditation? Still you cry, saying that the mind is not concentrating to meditate. You are always with Swami and speak with Swami. You have successfully completed sadhana (spiritual practice). Then why do you still want to be in the sadhana state? Because of this attitude, you are always unsatisfied. Nobody in this world has seen these visions and darshans of the lord which were shown to you. I told that you are the only lady fortunate enough in this age; even then you are not satisfied and always think that those people had darshan, these had interviews, but you did not.

Vasantha: Swami! there is no question of satisfaction in selfless (prema) devotion. If there is satisfaction, a fullstop is put for it; but prema will always have a comma only. If one gets satisfaction, then the progress of prema will be lesser. This yearning and aspiration alone will develop prema.

Swami : Very good! now too, you have defeated me.

Vasantha: O Lord! That is wrong. Kindly pardon me. I am lecturing to the very form of prema. It is You who create such thought in me.

Swami : No, No; you are wrong; your limitless prema is the reason for that. There is a limit for sea and sky; but there is no limit for your prema. Your speech, walking, living, thinking everything is the definition of prema. Your life itself is an example of selfless devotion; and it may be written as an example to the world itself.

2

I AM NOT WITHOUT YOU

On 19 November, 1996, Goddess Gayatri Devi told me: "In darshan you ask Swami that He should not depart from you even for a second? Why don’t you ask the boon that I (Gayatri) should be with you?"

Vasantha: Your face is like Swami’s. Swami’s darshan is equal to your presence. You are Swami Himself.

Swami : O! granary of wisdom! Shall I open your brain to see how much knowledge is there!

Vasantha: By all means Swami! The whole brain would be filled only with Your form. When Your form is in every cell blood, what else will be there?

Swami : Can’t you speak a single sentence without Me? If you can speak without me, I will give a grand gift.

Vasantha: Give that gift to somebody else Swami! Without you, not even a sentence or a word can be spoken by me.

Swami : This is also the definition for selfless devotion Prema Bhakti, a definition that has to be understood well.

Vasantha: Swami! Swami!! Except Swami, what else exists in this world? Swami! You are a tree, I am a creeper. Don’t remove this creeper from the tree, otherwise it will fall down, then get burnt by the sun, or drenched by the rain, and treated by all, it will die.

Swami : This tree too wants a creeper, without this creeper the tree will also not be here. Already you have written to Venkatraman that Swami won’t be there without you.

Vasantha: Is it possible for You, Swami, to be away from me?

Swami : Shall I make it possible?

Vasantha: Swami! Is it You who speak like this? (I cried).

Swami : Just for fun I told. Even for this you start crying.

Vasantha: When you utter the very word ‘possible’, it shows that separation is also possible for you. But I can’t live even for a single second without You, Swami! In that case, is Your prema lesser towards me? (I cried).

Swami : This is Radha; and the definition of Prema Bhakti (selfless love).

Vasantha: What is this, Swami? you are always saying, "That is the definition of prema. This is the definition of prema!

Swami : It is a fact. You are not able to endure the very world ‘separation’, because selfless love overflows to such an extent. For the definition of prema, I gather every point from you alone. Your speech, respiration and every activity, all are about God, yes! about God only. Then why do tears come from your eyes? When prema overflows in the heart, why do tears overflow from the eyes?

3

WHEN RADHA DEFEATED KRISHNA!

Vasantha: Swami! as per Venkatraman’s statement, just like the Gopbala (cowherd lady), I do not know the difference between the right and left hand. I don’t understand all these things, I don’t want any other thing except You.

Swamy: Now I have got one more definition of prema. You don’t know that all these things are out- comes of prema. But I know. That is why, I am defeated many times.

Vasantha: There is no place for defeat in Prema, Swami! When defeated, more bliss is enjoyed. What is defeat? When give and take policy is followed by each one, there is more bliss. Therefore you alone enjoy more bliss.

Swami: Don’t you see that this is also a point?

Vasantha: You may gather many points, but everything represents You only. My thoughts, body, spirit, soul, activities, will power, all these things are manifestations of You alone. You are the only source. Is there any existence for me without You? Is there any individuality for me? Is there any special thought pattern without you?

Swami: This is also a point.

Vasantha: Both pictures that appeared in this month’s ‘Sanathana Sarathi’ (a monthly magazine of Baba's organization) are top, Dhanvantari is super; O Dear! How is it that you are so beautiful! Every picture is very very attractive. Its beauty drives every one mad.

Swami: That too is your prema.

Vasantha: Swami! for every thing you are repeating the samething Prema, Prema, Prema, Prema.

Swami: Of course, it is true. It is you who sang the following lines :

"It is my prema that created Your form!

Who gave this attractive and sweet form to You?

It is my heart’s aspiration that gave the form"

Your prema is the only reason for this and also the limitless devotion of devotees that creates God. But non-devotees would say: "Is it a figure with shaggy haired head and long shirt? When devotion goes on increasing, point of view also changes. Your Prema gives your eyes a more beautiful vision.

RADHA’S ENERGY

From the very young age my ambition and goal of life was to love Krishna like Andal and Radha. In due course, as the days went on and on I become Radha herself.

On 5 October, 1995 I prayed Swami like this; "Siva’s energy is Parvati; Rama’s energy is Sita; Krishna’s energy is Radha. In the same manner is there anything like Sai's energy? In the above three instances, energy merged with male God like Siva-Shakti etc." I asked many times like this.

One day I received a Radha-Krishna’s picture from G.V. He wrote to me that Swami had told him to send this to me. Then I received many Radha-Krishna’s pictures cut from many books and magazines and many news about Radha also came to me by post. The correspondence continued like this for about two months.

Afterwards I received a letter with the following message: "If you were informed in the beginning itself that you are Radha, you might get swoon. That is why I sent the above pictures and news bit by bit." Later when Swami began to say to me "Radha is yourself." To prove this, Baba gave me darshan daily. I opened my diary notings of date 17.11.96. There-in I had written about Swami's message about energy. I gave is to Dr. and his wife to read; when they read about the word, "Truth! Truth!!" told by Swami, they cried with bliss. The above incident is a proof that I am Sai’s energy. Proofs do not end with this.

When I returned home I received a letter from G.V. He had written a poem in 1971 regarding Radha’s energy. Krishna emptying all his energy, came to Radha and she poured dissolved sandal water on him and fed energy. Whenever Krishna loses His energy, Radha feeds Him. This is the theme of poem. This poem was written 28 years back. Swami had told G.V. to send the above poem now. One of the wonderful evidences for Swami’s word "Truth"!

On 8 October, 1995 in a T.V. serial titled "Urvasi" the King of Devas (Gods) asks, "Why does this celestial world oscillate?" Krishna replied, "Prema has such a mighty power. Prema power is higher than penance power." At that time this Devaloka came to my memory.

"Swami, I want a separate world so that You and I alone can remain there. I want no sun, moon, light and day time, nothing. I want, a timeless world without the intervention of any one. I will be going on praising You; You should hear it and rejoice. Let the time be stopped, and the age be passed. This is my prayer, Swami!"

Vasantha: Swami! why have You created so many people and made them whirl in ever so many desires and greed and made every individual to undergo a lot of sufferings?

Swami : Minds of living bings go in their own way. I look at the fun of their sport, until they get tired and bored. Then at last one day they call the Lord; at that time I will run fast to help them.

Vasantha: What do you gain by this Swami? Why do you make them suffer?

Swami : That is My sport.

Vasantha: Is this a good sport! Don’t you get bored by this, Swami?

Swami : When I get bored, I wish to destroy the whole world and be immersed in Yoga Nidra.

Vasantha: Is it possible for human beings to attain that Yoga Nidra?

Swami : Even sleep itself can be made into yoga. If you are immersed in sleep with the thought of God, that itself becomes yoga. Yoga is not separate. Every work can be converted into yoga. Reading, sitting, walking, eating, sleeping, and working all can be made yoga. Then life itself becomes yoga. Your life is also a yoga. When every second is spent for the Lord and with the thought of God, it become yoga. (Gita - IX chapter)

Vasantha: Swami! Venkataraman wrote that all have spiritual thirst and enthusiastic enquiry. But when we have close contact with them, we come to know that all of them want only wealth, health, children, long life, job, marriage and such other things. It seems that they pray the Lord only to solve such personal problems. Those who pray God for God’s sake only are rare now-a-days.

Swami : Only a few like you rarely pray God for God’s sake. ‘I want You, I want You only’. This is your prayer, That alone is Prema Bhakti - an attitude of not wanting anything but God. One can get the grace of God by craving, crying and praying. The devotion of such devotees alone is the food and basis of God.

Vasantha: When Arjuna asked, You told the characteristics of Sthitha pragya (One who is established in wisdom). Likewise, kindly tell me the characteristic of Prema Bhakti. How will they who have prema behave, speak and look like?

Swami : They won’t forget God, even for a single second; They would talk of nothing but God; they would hear nothing but spiritual matters. They can not live for even a second without the thought of God. Only for God’s sake, they eat and even sleep. Since they do everything for God’s sake, it becomes a yajna (sacred sacrifice). They would have all relationships with God only. They won’t slip in their stand and goal in any circumstance and occasion. Nothing of this world can attract them. They would live with God, creating a separate world. They would feel truth alone through their five senses. Their senses won’t go to the external world. Through five elements they would get divine news through T.V., Radio, books, newspapers, everywhere, in all things. They would realise and speak with the Lord in many ways. Every question that arises from the mind, would get the answer at once.

Vasantha: Swami! Has selfless love (prema) got a form?

Swami : It is said : "Ramo vigrahan, Dharma!" Even attributes have their forms. We say that Rama and Krishna are embodiments of Sathya and Dharma (Truth and Righteousness), likewise prema also has got a form. The form of prema is Myself.

Vasantha: Swami?

Swami : It is you that sang that "Your prema only gave this form."

Vasantha: How is possible, Swami? You were born earlier, I wrote only now.

Swami : First your divine prema was with Krishna, after seeing Me, you saw Krishna in Me and then you started to worship this form of Mine with Prema Bhakti. You sang that "Your prema only gave this form." That is correct.

5

WHAT DO YOU WANT?

Vasantha: Swami, I want You. I want You alone.

Swami : I am near you only. Why do you cry?

Vasantha: That is the one thing, I don’t understand, Swami! How will I compensate for this overflowing prema towards You? (I cried wailingly).

Swami : Your life itself a yagna (Sacrifice). Your tears, japa, meditation, yaham (religious merit) all these things are you only. In the fire of prema you have offered yourself as oblation. This is yoga, this is penance itself.

Swami appeared once again in front of me.

Vasantha: Swami I want You; You only. (Very often I repeated this request).

Swami : Look! Here I am. What are you going to do? Don’t you talk any other thing except this?

Vasantha: I know not what to do, Swami?

Swami : Because of your spiritual thirst, you are always asking this. You are always aspiring again and again for the Lord, since it has been absorbed in your body, blood, and all tissues, you are always telling this. This can even be called as spiritual thirst! This intensive thirst will arise only in the concentrated mind.

Vasantha: O Magnificent Lord of crores of worlds and universes. O Paramatma (Prime Soul) O ancient and endless great Lord! I am like chicken in search of protection that moves slowly into the wings of its mother (Hen). I don’t know anything. It is Your burden (duty) to protect me.

Swami : Definitely, you are under My protection.

Vasantha: O Creator of movable and unmovable world! O eminent Lord of triple action. O Lord of three worlds! O Lord! all the four Vedas adore You. You are such a great soul who has come and speaks with me! What a great compassion! So many saints and sages do penance in forests and mountain caves. I did not do any penance like them. Even then, how is it that You are always with me and speak with me?

Swami : What penance did the Gopies and Radha do? They surrendered themselves to Krishna. "Ananyas-Chintayanthoman ye janaf paryupasathe ..." According to this Gita verse, they surrendered completely, without any other thought. As you told, those cowherd people know not the difference between the right and the left hand. They are all illiterates. They don’t know what is surrender? All they knew was Krishna, Krishna alone. They always lived in Krishna consciousness. It is a marvellous state, in which not even a second is spent without the thought of God. Whatever they did, they did with Krishna consciousness. This is a yoga in which one is always with the Lord. You are doing this only; you are asking for this state. But saints and sages do penance to attain Saayujam Moksha.

Vasantha: Saayujyam Moksha, paradise, all these things I don’t know, Swami. How can I experience the Moksha that is obtained after death? I want to experience Your intimacy in this body itself, here itself and right now! This bliss is enough.

Swami : The very same is the Prema Bhakti. Are Moksha, Paradise equal to God’s intimacy? Saints and sages attain Saayujyam Moksha (Mukti) by doing penance. But in your case, Saayujyam or Mukti comes seeking devotees like you. When compared to Saroopyam, they considered these things as worthless.

Vasantha: Swami! I am the property of the greatest Emperor of this universe and not of a beggar. Therefore I won’t approach anybody, either for material or spiritual favour. I must depend 100 percent on you. I should not ask anything from anybody.

Swami : Definitely.

Vasantha: I should not desire for other's property that is even a needle - point, Swami. I don’t allow any thought to rise in me except You.

Swami : Needle - point! What a wonderful word! Your infinite prema alone can use such new, new words.

Vasantha: All are due to Your grace only. O Lord! If you praise me using such words. I will be caught by egoism as a consequence of respect and pride. Then will You not go away from me?

Swami : Ego! Even it’s shadow is not found in you. Once you get the grace of Lord, ego cannot remain there. Both light and darkness can not remain together at one place.

On 12 November 1996, I prayed Baba to bestow the following boon. Swami! The whole world should become Sai kingdom; Your name should be chanted in every nook and corner of the world. You should be worshipped in every house; Your compassion should overflow and immerse the world itself. The whole world should rejoice in Your prema. Everyone should have spiritual awakening. Kindly bestow this boon Swami!

Swami : Definitely it will happen; you yourself are going to see it.

Vasantha: One may live for 100 years as told in Vedas;

Half of the period is spent in sleep,

And then fifteen years in youth.

Remaining period in illness, hunger and old age suffering.

Hence I want no birth,

O Lord of great Srirangam.

   (An Alwar’s poem)

The above poem shows the sufferings of mankind; why do they suffer so, Swami?

Swami : That is Karma. They have to experience them according to their individual past deeds.

Vasantha: When the whole world is engaged in this way, why am I different? I am not able to spend even a minute in worldly things, Swami.

Swami : That is Radha. You are a different lady. Why do you pray Gayatri Goddess and ask that you should become Swami’s Rakshai (amulet) when Swami Himself is an amulet to Swami?

Vasantha: Swami! daily You are taking over some one’s fever or other disease.

Swami : What is lost by that? It is you who sang that water won’t make it wet, fire wont burn it, wind can’t dry it. When I am in such a state, how will this disease affect Me?

Let us give an instance here. Once Swami went to Masulipattanam with His dear and near devotees. When they were going on the shore, Swami went far into the sea. When all of them were seeing Swami, he appeared as Srinarayana lying on the Adisesha, over Thiruppalkadal (Sea of milk). All had a wonderful darshan. Then He came over the waves and joined the devotees. When every one saw Swami, His dress was not at all wet.

Vasantha: It is said that it won’t harm you in any way, then lately why did you get fever at Kodaikanal? I was told that you were tired and weak. "Swami vomitted" - I saw this news in a paper. Why did all these things happen?

Swami: O mad one! that is a drama conducted by Me for the world. I will not be affected in any way, I accept the illness of devotees.

Vasantha: You may say so. But I alone know the sufferings that I went through on that day.

Swamy: O dull lady! One day you speak like a learned person that water won’t wet, fire won’t burn; the other day you lament that Swami is suffering from fever.

Sai devotees know that the following miracle had taken place on 6th July, 1963. Eight days before this date. Swami was very much affected by severe paralytic attack. On the above date, the sufferings undergone by his devotees were too much. Then in due course Swami cured Himself and narrated it as given below:

"Though you do not know what happened to Me, there is one benefit by this disease. I came to know the depth of your love, during these 8 days. For the past 8 days all of you were in single thought with concentrated mind. Even if you do penance for years together, you could not have done this concentrated prayer. So you are all fortunate in this sense."

Vasantha: Why am I so dull? Why is this dual mentality in me, Swami?

Swami: These are all your excessive love and unlimited prema towards the Lord. Because of your infinite devotion, you don’t even know what to speak and what not to speak.

Vasantha: Swami, why did You make me mad like this? O Lord! O Krishna! I love you very much.

Swami: I am always with you. See here that your tears have made Me wet. Nobody in this world has prayed with such tears.

On 30 November, 1996 from 2 AM I was thinking about Swami. Swami came and asked me "Why do you cry at this hour?"

Vasantha: O Magnificent Master of crores and crores of people, worlds and of the universe!O Harihari! O Murahari! O Narahari! O Acchuta! O Amala! O Aditya! O Embodiment of Sat Chit Ananda! (Existence, Knowledge and Bliss)! O great Lord of infinite sports (leelas) Swami! let the whole world live in happiness; let Your gracious effulgence spread everywhere.

Swami: What do you want? Ask something. Let Me give you.

Vasantha: I don’t want anything, Swami! You have given me Yourself. What else do I need? You are all provoking. Is there anything separately beyond You? When You had given me possession, when you are everywhere in all things, at all times, what else do I require? You, You alone I want.

Swami: All these things indicate your higher devotional state. No illusion in your mind, that alone is Maya (Illusion).

I stayed at the house of dear Dr. Kothandapani at Paramakudi, to attend Baba’s ceremony. They made me stay there for six days with their affectionate hospitality. That day Swami showered His grace excessively. Baba proved in many ways that I was Radha. I thanked Swami with tears and stood still for a while.

Vasantha: Swami! You and the doctor have raised my status upto the sky. I felt Your love very much at Paramakudi, Swami!

Swami: I did not do anything. Your Prema Bhakti alone raised you to the sky. Power of prema is higher than the power of penance. Devotees' prema power is more energetic than God's power itself.

6

SADHANA AND GRACE

"Swami! for the past two days You did not talk well and your darshan was also not satisfactory. At the doctor’s residence you said, "Give energy, feed energy". Does that mean, my prema power is reduced? Tell me Swami! have I lost my energy?" I cried and wept.

Swami : Don’t cry. O mad one. Your energy is not reduced; it has increased; only material things will reduce when you go on giving. Be in bliss. If I am in a blissful state, you too must be in that state. If Krishna is in bliss, Radha also should be in bliss."

Positive and Negative

Vasantha: "I am always crying, but You are the embodiment of bliss. Is it not a contradiction, Swami!

Swami : That alone is Radha. Only opposites can join. If positive and positive or negative and negative are connected, no current will pass. Absoluteness is bliss. Why do you cry? When you crave and aspire for God with fanatic enthusiasm, it comes out in the form of tears. From this bliss and tears much energy comes.

Vasantha: What is the use of that energy, Swami?

Swami : That energy goes on spreading as vibratory waves through out the sky. If there is any suitable vessel on the earth, the waves are attracted by that vessel. Do you say that electricity is useless? Those who know to use the electric energy know that is also useful for those who try to get it. As an example, let us take your life. You had the darshan of so many saints and seers. They all came in search of you to bestow their blessings. They realised that you are a suitable vessel. Your craving, aspiration and tears for God brought those saints to your place.

If man has true spiritual thirst and aspiration for God, the other things will automatically come to him. That is why, it is said that open space meditation is good. In this meditation, the spreading waves of the sky settle down on the meditation.

Ra Ganapathi in his book titled Sai Arulamudham has written that human effort and God’s grace are essential for the completion of sadhana. Swami told the above idea of Ganapathi to me.

Vasantha: I want to worship you more, Swami!

Swami : No more sadhana for you. Are you not ever satisfied with sadhana?

Vasantha: No sadhana ... Swami! worship ... ? I mean worship.

That shows Your individuality.

Swami : You have worshipped a lot, still you crave to worship.

Vasantha: I want to be alone and be with You only. I don’t want any connection with any one. So don’t shower sacred ash and saffron in my house, as You do in others' houses. If You shower them a large crowd would come to my house and my loneliness would be spoiled.

Swami : That is why I have kept you in this state. Your sadhana is over. Something should be done for the welfare of the world, is it not?

Vasantha: I don’t have even the memory or feeling that other people are also in this world. I remember myself and You alone. What can I do for this, Swami?

Swami : I see no other way, except taking one more incarnation, to repay your debt of prema. You say that your thought of God is burning like a forest fire. But don’t you see that I am dragged away by the overflow of the forest-river flood of your tears?

Vasantha: Swami, is it possible either to control or write about my overflowing prema, my tears and our love? How is it possible to cover this prema within the limits of writing? A small book may not be enough for this. Whether the readers (even one or two) would understand the extent of my prema? (I cried and wept).

Swami : "You fool! This book is only to show your prema; infinite God is now within the boundary of your book; is it not? A small effort is made to limit your ultimated prema within that boundary. Definitely most of them will be benefitted by this book. Don’t cry. Involve yourself happily in this effort. I will be with you."

After this darshan Swami disappeared. At the same time tender coconut water appeared on the altar. It was not an ordinary tender coconut water. It was so sweet, just like the Dream Island sea water, to be described in the next chapter. People of the opposite and adjacent houses tasted it and took it to their houses.

One day Swami appeared before me. That day my tears were overflowing like anything. I do not know why I was not at all able to control the tears.

Swami : Look here! your Krishna is now in front of you. Why tears still roll on your cheeks? If you go on weeping like this, I have no other go, except creating a separate island so that you and I alone will be there. Shall we go to that island and rejoice there."

Even then flow of my tears did not stop. I do not know why it happened so.

SILVER ISLAND

Once in my meditation Swami said to me, "Come with Me. I will show a place". He showed me a vision. "It was a sea and a boat was in the sea. Both of us, Baba and myself, sat in the boat; boat went automatically without oars. Boat stopped at an island, and we went around the island. The island was full of creepers, flower arches and a garden with a lot of different kinds of roses. There was a swing under one of the flower arches.

We stood on the shore. I sang : "O waves! come. Bring a flower to my Swami." Immediately, there was a lotus in between Swami’s two feet.

Swami : Did you see? Hearing your song, a flower has come at once?

Vasantha: Your will power Swami!

Swami : Drink this sea water.

If Swami says some thing there must be of some speciality. So I drank the water. Ha! It was so sweet like tender coconut water. Swami had converted the sea water into tender coconut water, I wondered and enjoyed its taste.

Swami : I created this island for you alone; you are going to see more wonders.

Fountains were found everywhere and its floor was made of silver; no mud was seen anywhere. It was a beautiful scene with peacocks, parrots and deer.

Vasantha: O, how nice is this one! What is this bird, Swami!

Swami : Swan! (A heavenly bird)

Vasantha: Swami! a swan spoke to Nala and Damayanthi. I have read that story.

Swami : O! this swan calls you as Queen!

Vasantha: I have read about the mattress woven with Swan’s feathers. Swami!

There was one sofa-cum-cot (but it did not look like a cot) with beautiful artistic flower design. The glaze of the wood was dazzling. There was a snow-white cushion like Hamsadulika mattress over that sofa-cum-cot. I touched the sofa, it was soft like a sponge. After sometime, the sofa converted itself into a swing. Swami sat on it. I was very happy to oscillate the swing.

It was a small island; its light was soothing and the breeze was pleasant. The island was filled with divine smell of flowers. There was sun on one side and moon on the other. O, what a wonderful scene it was!

9.1.1997 (Thursday) : The same island again appeared in my inner vision during the meditation. I was with Swami, enjoying the bliss. After this darshan Swami disappeared. Five elderly people and 12 children attended the Bhajan and it was very melodious. After aarti (showing camphor flame to God in clock-wise circle) tender coconut water flooded from Baba’s stage and made the floor, altar and padukas wet. Tulsi leaves floated on the water. All the people tasted the water with wonder. Swami told me that was the water which surrounded the island. After bhajan, Poornakumbha (broad mouthed divine vessel) coconut was broken, and the coconut was full of fresh camphor smell. Every one tasted the water. It was so sweet like the Silver Island water.

For the past two days I was crying continuously, thinking over the compassion of Swami, for showing me that island and also for making those people who came to bhajan to taste that sweet water. Swami’s thought tortured me, so to forget Him I went to my daughter’s house at Kovilpatty in order on 10 January, 1997.

Next day I wrote a letter to the doctor. When my daughter-in-law switched on Sun T.V. then the T.V. song was like this :

I want an island without any one.

Where You and I should be alone.

WHO WRITES THIS BOOK?

On 14 December, 1996, I told Swami in my meditation: "Out of Your infinite grace, You have told me to publish this book. You have narrated four kinds of liberation, are they dreams or day-time scenes, Swami?

Swami : Wakeful states alone. Let your prema be known to the outer world.

Vasantha: In that case, only Your glory should cover greater portion of the book and about me little is enough, Swami.

Swami : Don’t you know that for ever so many people are going to be benefitted by this book. Is not your life an example to so many people? Why do you worry about it? Did you not say : "I did not serve; I did not serve". This is also a service to the world. This is greater than other services. I told that My life is My message. In the same manner, your life also is going to be a message to the world.

Vasantha: You mean that all these things are to be written, Swami!

Swami : I say write it. Of all the charities, bestowing the spiritual wisdom is the best. This is spiritual charity.

Vasantha: Swami! Don’t separate me from You, saying that this book is like a lamp at the hill top. I want You, You alone.

Swami : It is I that do all these things. Is it fair to have this thought always? Your devotion will overflow as it was before. You always cry thinking that if this book is published, that some thing may happen to you; come out from that fear and worry.

Vasantha: Your Madras devotee wrote a book about You. I heard that she is not worshipping You now-a-days. I fear whether I would also become like that?

Swami : See here. It is I who is publishing this book. I am going to write it also. I alone will be spreading this message throughout the world. Let your prema be known to all. You will not be affected by this anyway. I won’t go away from you and you will not be separated from Me by publishing this. Have you any faith in Me, or not?

Vasantha: I have full faith, Swami!

Swami : Then why worry and cry? Be happy. Others (in the world)) also may learn to live like you. Is it not? Don’t cry here-after.

Vasantha: Swami! I want to offer 1008 lotus flowers, chanting Your name.

Swami : What is there between you and the lotus? Always you are telling this.

Vasantha: I don’t know Swami.

Swami : There is relation. Lotus is a holy one, it will not stick to anything; it is unattached. Though it is in the water, it has no relation with it. Because of its holiness, it is compared to God’s organs like face, hands, eyebrows. Because of your connection with God, you are also holy and pure form of prema.

GOD HIMSELF GAVE THIS TITLE

On 16 December, 1996 I told Swami : "Yesterday at Sai Devotees' conference at Madurai, they told us about the importance of service. But I did not serve to the extent as told by them at Madurai."

Swami : Yours is also a service; spiritual service. Saints and seers do penance in caves and forests. Will you say that they are all waste? They do penance, not caring for their body. When they do penance again and again, they get energy. Their body and mind become bright. The power of their penance dissolves in the atmospheric air. Our country, this holy earth, is a virtuous land. How did it becomes holy? Because of the penance done by saints, sages and seers, it has become holy.

Vasantha: What would be the effect of this atmospheric air?

Swami : Foreigners come here with spiritual thirst. That energy will be useful for all those people. They believe that calmness and peace would be available only in this land. It will be available to our people also if they try truly and practice with the same thirst. Others may also be benefitted by your spiritual power; spiritual power purifies the environment.

Vasantha: Swami! You Yourself kindly give a title to this book now itself.

Swami : "Liberation! Here Itself! Right Now!" This will be the suitable title to this book ‘Here’ means, within this world itself, and ‘Now’ means one can attain liberation with this body itself. But one can attain this state, only when he practices like you.

On 18 December, 1996 I told Swami : Swami, I want no book, no world, no worldly duties. I want You alone.

Swami : If everybody is like you, how will devotion develop? If you had not known Andal, you would not have worshipped like Andal. Since Alwars' and Nayanmars' devotion was known to the public, people all over the world think to follow their foot-steps. In the same way, only when your devotion is known to the public, they will follow your method.

After the above statements of Swami, immediately sacred ash and saffron powder appeared on the padukas. I was thrilled by His divine grace.

10

SHALL I BECOME ANDAL?

On 21 December, 1996 I prayed to Swami : "Swami! Loka samashtha sukino Bhavanthu. Let all people be happy. Let Your grace be showered everywhere. Let Your spiritual revolution spread every place".

Swami : Saalokyam, Saameepyam, Saarupyam and Saayujyam --- all these kinds of liberation can be attained here itself. How will you know the experience of paradise, attained after the death? How can we feel that experience? That is why it is said that it should be experienced in this body itself and in this world itself. One can feel, experience and enjoy four kinds of liberation right now. Every soul can attain this, if he or she tries. Your life shows only this. If one has perseverance, sincerity, deep faith and ceaseless thought of God like the pouring of oil (oilfall), he too can attain it. Your sadhana is bigger one; nobody can reach that height.

Vasantha: I must attain one more thing by sadhana, Swami.

Swami : What is that?

Vasantha: Like Andal and Vallalar I should become one with You, with this body itself, Swami. When both of them have attained that by their sadhana, why not I?

Swami : Andal (Ruler)! You have ruled Myself. You have sung the following lines often, "I am fortunate that I got Sai empire". That has become true today. The entire love of the Sai empire has become your possession.

Vasantha: Will it be possible Swami, to attain my goal? Even this body should not remain in the world like Andal.

Swami : From the young age itself, you were marching towards this goal. How much tears? How many sacrifices? How many austerities? How much different sadhanas you did to attain this!

Vasantha: One of the Alwars have given the following description about one’s suffering during death :

"All those who stand around the dying person, wait for the departure of the soul from the body. It is not known whether one’s memory would return; with dimmed knowledge, chocked throat and not chanting God’s name they die. What sort of death is this? Is it not common to all? Why can’t I overcome this sort of death? I should die with fresh brain and bright knowledge. O Lord! Mind united with your figure, chanting your name, like a blossomed flower, I should merge with You".

From the very young age, this was my goal. Please make me a garland, have it around your neck, Swami!

Swami : Your life is an example to the world.

Vasantha: Swami! I want my death to be an example to the world. O Lord! not even the shadow of suffering should be found in my death. Like Andal You should make me merge with You, with this very body and with bliss.

Swami : Andal and Vallalar did not want such an end like this. Their devotion gave them such an end; nobody demanded such a death from the very young age like you. When the world trembles at the very word death, you alone asked for a particular death and are immersed in the same thought. Your prema power gave this courage to you. It is that spiritual power that made you fearless to ask about the death. And you got the promise also to cross over the ocean of death from the Lord Himself. Who else had got such promise like this? Every birth ends in death, but what sort of aim one had in his life, is known only at the time of his death. Next birth comes according to one’s death. When one dies, the soul takes with it all those things which were gathered in this birth. The thoughts of the dying man become the base for the next birth. Therefore, death plays an important role in the human life. Where and how will one take birth? Only death decides this. So one should think over the death, benefitted by your spiritual power; spiritual power purifies the environment.

GLORY OF GOD

Vasantha: Swami! kindly bestow on me more and more Prema Bhakti.

Swami : Even if you don’t talk, your tongue repeats the same thing. Just like an involuntary action, it repeats, "more prema and still more prema".

Vasantha: Yes, Swami! Do you mean that I am telling it like an oil pressing machine, without earnestness?

Swami : No! This thought has spread all over your body and is deeply imprinted in your mind. By repeating this again and again, without interval it has become a habit to you. Just like this adage (proverb) "even if you forget, your tongue won’t forget."

Vasantha: Swami! I am not able to control my over-flowing devotion towards you.

Swami : Why do you think of controlling it? Let both of us be flooded away by that overflowing love. Let us swim with heavenly joy. Such a devotee is born only once in an age (yuga). God waits for the arrival of such devotees.

Vasantha: During Krishna Avatar (Incarnation) the young and old of Gokulam and Mathura showered such a love upon You. They were attracted like anything at the very name of Krishna. Just like that, in this incarnation also, what sort of attraction You have that makes people of all countries come rushing towards you? They are very crazy in chanting Your name and form. What is the charm that fascinates all these people? What is the magnetic power that attracts not only human beings but even birds and beasts? During Krishna Avatar, not only higher species but even lower species also melted. Just like that, in this great Avatar even sarees, that were not touched by You, shed tears.

Swami : It is because of prema (love) only. When love is spread everywhere, it comes back to you. When you also spread that love throughout the world, that too will come back to you. See yourself in everyday. There are two things in the world --- one is God and the other is universe; universe is filled with Swami’s energy, you can see yourself in every universal thing. What is visible in the glass?

Vasantha: Image, Swami. My Image!

Swami : This world is a mirror. Look yourself in it. Only one thing exists --- that is God. It won’t suit your attitude. God’s splendour excels in all things like you, butterfly and the beauty of its fluttering feathers, goat, peacock, deer that run leaping, tinkling sound of the river. Think that in everything and living being you alone exist, and if you think like this, then there will be no difference. If you learn this habit, you will be more fortunate.

Vasantha: You told Hislop that you grant no interview to those who do "Madhura Bhavana Sadhana". Why so Swami? (Conversations with Baba - By Hislop, page 199).

Swami : I have told you not to ask why and how? Is it not?

Vasantha: No interview, alright; can’t You give at least Pada Namaskar?

Swami : What is lost if you don’t take Padanamaskar there (at Prasanthi Nilayam)? You are taking it daily here (at Vadakkampatti). What is physical? What is subtle? Both are one and the same.

Vasantha: If both are the same then why did you tell Hislop that physical attachment alone was strong with Gopi’s towards Krishna; so when Krishna died, they also died. In the same way, Hislop came to India to see you? Why don’t You do like that for me also. Though my subtle eyes see you, my mind wants to see you physically.

Swami : You have won me with My own words, and I am defeated once again.

Vasantha: Swami! Only for the satisfaction of devotees you repeat, "I am defeated, I am defeated!" Because of you, even thoughts arise in the mind. You act as if you are defeated, to bring out the intentions of devotees.

Swami : Good girl. This is the best sadhana. Inviting God to one’s residence is a very good sadhana. Continuous thought like an oilfall and yearning make God come to one’s own place.

Here let me mention one thing. For a long time I wanted to know about physical and mental body. The day of 7 November, 1996 was a golden day in my life, because only on that day I got the answer. For a long time I would not sleep during night. Only after mid-night, I would sleep for some time. Once when I was in deep sleep at 2.00 P.M. a hand touched me. At once I caught the hand and told, "Swami! Swami!!" I opened my eyes and Swami was standing in front of me. Since tears were flowting on my eyes, I could not speak. I gently kissed His physical hand. Then Swami touched my face, consoled me and disappeared at once. Though His darshan remained for a few minutes, He has fulfilled my wishes.

Vasantha: Swami! you say that one should follow Advaita, formless one. Don’t say like this. I did not want all these things. I want Your form only. I don’t understand Advaita; give me the wisdom of understanding it.

Swami : Bhakti (Devotion) and Jnana (true knowledge) --- both are the same. When devotion comes, real knowledge also comes. When a thing is done with the thought of Bhagavan, it becomes yoga. Karma (Action), Bhakti (Devotion) and Jnana (Supreme wisdom) all are one; when you taste a sweet, you taste its form and weight along with its sweetness. Do we taste its sweetness and form separately? In the same way, Bhakti itself is real Jnana. No special efforts is needed to attain this Jnana. You are permanent in My heart just like a pole-star. So don’t cry.

Vasantha: I worshipped Krishna from my young age, but my mind concentrates only on Your form. Why so Swami?

Swami : Now Krishna Himself has come in the human form with bones and flesh. Your mind being a human one, naturally it attaches with the human form of God. Since God is in this form, you feel Him and enjoy Him. So your mind concentrates on it.

SUCH A FORTUNATE SOUL

On January, 1997, I cried : "Swami! Swami! Swami! I want You."

Swami : Look, I am here. What you want Me to do?

Vasantha: That is the thing I do not know, Swami! My blood, heart, each atom, tissue and every thing in my body wants You alone.

Swami : O dull--headed girl! This is not crying, this is the greatest joy; you are experiencing ecstatic and blissful state only. Not knowing how to explain it, you cry and it is not possible also to explain it. It can only be experienced and not explained. Because of your crying and pure prema towards God, you have attained this state which saints, sages and seers did not attain. Nobody in this yuga is experiencing like this.

Vasantha: Swami! I don’t give importance to Your other physical organs. But I want Your holy feet. Why do all want Your holy feet?

Swami : Every one would prostrate at the feet only. How is it possible to prostrate at other organs? Surrendering means, taking refuge at the feet of God. Holy feet is the only refuge for all, at all time. To cross over the ocean of birth, holy feet alone are the boat. So everyone likes holy feet always.

After this explanation, tender coconut water of the separate island shown by Swami flooded from the stage and stood around the altar and the holy padukas and made the floor wet. Those who came to that Bhajan that day took the divine water and tasted it.

On 16 January, 1997 I cried continuously with Swami’s thought and Swami came.

Swami : Where is Vaikuntham (Heaven) and where is Vadakkampatti? How did Vaikuntham came to Vadakkampati? Your crying and tears alone accomplished this. Don’t cry.

Vasantha: Swami! I forget Pongal and Deepawali festivals and their dates, days and their importance also.

Swami : When you are in God’s thought alone, why do you worry about the date and day. World will go on its own accord. Devotees won’t have such thoughts. That is why you also forget Pongal, Deepawali etc. Your experience is different; why do you want Gita, Upanishads, Vedanta? You see everything in Me. Radha and Gopies did not need Gita and Vedanta. They lived on Krishna’s thought alone. You are also like them. Why do you try to change it? What you are now is correct. Nobody can attain your status.

One day I told Swami that I wanted to worship Him as mother, considering myself as His child.

Swami : Don’t change after such a long period of Sadhana. Prema Bhakti alone is suitable for you.

At once a lot of sacred vibhuti and wet sandal balls came from padukas, as Swami’s blessings.

13

ANOTHER GITA GOVINDAM

Swami : Nobody in this world has experienced divinity like you. You have accumulated experiences like diamonds and Navaratnas. Not only in this Avatar but also in any other Avatar, nobody has experienced like this.

Vasantha: Do you mean that even Radha and Gopis did not have this experience during Krishna Avatar?

Swami : They too did not experience like you. Radha did not have any Krishna experience; she lived on Krishna’s consciousness alone, that is all. And she experiences it now. Don’t you understand still? That Radha is you alone. I am repaying you that debt today.

Vasantha: O Lord! O Lord!! O Lord!!! Is it so?

Swami : Don’t you believe My word?

Vasantha: Not like that Swami ! I am not at all able to endure your (this) Prema.

Swami : That is why I say it bit by bit. Relax! Relax!!

Then from Swami’s padukas lot of vibhuti and sandal powder with such a sweet smell came.

When I told this, Mr. J.V.K. narrated an incident parallel to this :

Adishesha was born as Lakshmana at the time of Rama Avatar. Lord Narayana saw that service done by Lakshmana was very great. So he told Lakshmana, "I will take birth as your younger brother in Krishna Avatar." He repaid the service debt of Rama Avatar.

Is it not a suitable simile?

On 15 May, 1996 I was reading ‘Dharmachakra’ in which I found the following passage :

"Sri Ramakrishna tried to attain Krishna, through Madhura Bhavam. He prayed the whole day and night and even months together. He became a mad man and yearned to have Krishna's darshan. His whole body became hot with a burning sensation. He thought unless he got the grace of Radha he could not get the darshan of Krishna, so he prayed Radha. And he got the holy vision of Radha. Krishna became the property of Radha, because of her overflowing prema. Her purity (both inside and outside) of body and illumination of the individuality cannot be compared with anything. "Out of the 19 kinds of Madhura Bhava, emotions of Radha, Gauranga and other devotees might have got one or two emotions" say devotional texts. The life span of one is not enough to be successful in one of Madhura Bhava. Paramahamsa had these 19 kinds of emotions of Madhura Bhava in full and got the darshan of Krishna also".

After reading this, I prayed Swami unceasingly to bestow on me that Madhura Bhava state and cried. Then Swami appeared in my meditation.

Swami : "You have already attained that state, otherwise how can I call you as Radha? You have completed your sadhana, still you want to remain in that state and cry? God has accepted you, since you attained its peak. Don’t worry! You have attained absoluteness of Madhura Bhava."

Still I was not satisfied. So I told Swami : "I would do some sort of sadhana like Paramahamsa, and I would prepare sweet diamond cuts (sweets) and offer to You. Kindly confirm your above words, through some proof or evidence." When I counted the sweets, they were eight in numbers like astaakshara. I told myself. "Let me offer this and make my mind strong." After sometime I went into the puja room and counted the sweets. It was only seven in number. Baba had miraculously taken always one sweet. At the same time Vibhuti and saffron were found around padukas and on the altar.

With great joy, I burst out : "O Lord Krishna, You have proved that I have attained Radha’s absoluteness through sacred ash, sweets and saffron. Am I qualified for this status, Swami?" Once again I wailed and cried. Swami appeared once again and said, "Even after My confirmation that you are Radha herself, you ask me again and again. "Am I qualified? Am I qualified? Who are you to ascertain your status?"

I said to myself, "Incivility! Incivility!" and blew on my cheeks.

On that very day I received a letter from G.V. in which he wrote "Swami woke me up from sleep at midnight and told me to write a letter to you. Why Baba showers such a love!". After reading that I shouted, "Swami!" and cried "What else can I do except this" I wrote these words to Mr. G.V. in my reply.

Next day when I was going through the spiritual portion of the news paper. ‘Dinamalar’ it was completely about ‘Govindam’ of Jayadeva. In the forenoon of that day when I switched on my T.V. at 11.45 A.M., the whole scene echoed the contents of G.V.’s letter, "I gave my thought to You and You gave your grace to me," sang the great saint Manickavasagar. What a wonderful evidence I get through T.V. and books!

On 13 January, 1997 I had a dream in which I saw that wonderful island with silver floor. There peacock was dancing, parrot was speaking and the sea water had turned into tender coconut water. The above scenes came to my memory again and again and immersed me in bliss. At the same time those thoughts did not allow me to do any work. So just in order to relieve from this sweet pain and to forget Baba I went to Kovilpatti!

Swami : You came here to forget Me, did you forget?

Vasantha: It has increased still more Swami! Why did You make me like this? Even to children my mind is not much attached.

Swami : Who is relative to whom? All are passing clouds. Don’t try to change your natural tendencies.

Vasantha: Swami! I want you only, Swami!

Swami : This is your real nature.

Vasantha: Swami! How does this word ‘Sai Ram’ make the world alluring? What is the meaning of Sai?

Baba : Don’t they say Sesha Sai! One who has snake as his bed. Just like that Sathya Sai means one who has Sathya (Truth) at his bed.

Vasantha: Your name and form allure the whole world; some people like me are also mad after you.

Swami : No one is mad like you. When I am not able to manage this one mad girl even, you say some more mad minds are also there. This world is a stage (Drama). See how everyone acts his role. Don’t allow anything to be impressed into your mind. Now shall we swim in the sea?

Vasantha: Swami! I don’t know to swim! If I hold your hand I may leave it. So you hold my hands.

Swami : You are careful and wakeful so that you may not lose the grip of the Lord. It has diffused in your blood itself. Very good. One should be like this only.

We came around the island floating and not by swimming. Both of us sat in front of a round table. Two big cups containing beautiful blood red fruit came. The cups were round and shining. Another fruit was violet. After taking a bit of it, Swami gave it to me and its taste was something superb.

Vasantha: Swami ........?

Swami : These are given by Devas (Gods).

At that time Devas rained flowers, Great seer Narada came and sang melodiously. When we were in this island, we saw sun on one side and the moon on the other side. The island excelled wonderfully with effulgence. When I wrote this on 9 February, 1997 at 11.00 A.M. I saw a T.V. programme in which I heard the following songs : "Young Krishna calls Radha, his damsel".

On 25 January, 1997 when I had started for Paramakudi to write this book, I got Krishna's darshan in my morning meditation. Krishna said, "That day I did nothing to Radha. Even then she was immersed in her own soul’s bliss. That is why, I make your prema public so that they will come to know of My prema. You are the very flame of prema life."

Vasantha: Krishna! I want to be Your foot-dust".

Having uttered these words, I was crying. Then Baba came near me, put His hand on my head and said, "Relax! Relax!! When I (Krishna) am in a blissful state, Radha also should be blissful."

Vasantha: Swami! When you are in a blissful state, why am I always crying? How would bliss and cry meet?

Swami : Only when north and south poles meet, energy will emerge".

I forgot myself and got into trance for a while by Baba’s reply. Later I regained my memory and started for Paramakudi.

Dear readers, now you may have a doubt, whether Swami would converse with me in such a manner as written above on 25 January 1997. In this context, I can quote only from the book, entitled ‘Swami by Ra. Ganapathi.

"When prema rains with the hurricane of God’s compassion and overflows both banks with devotees’ aspiration, can any dam stop it which is constructed with one’s discrimination and intelligence?"

Swami gave the above answer when He was questioned. "Whether a devotee can enter into trance like this?"

I have experienced many times Baba’s prema and admitted I was unable to withstand His overflowing prema.

PREMA ASTHRAM

(Love Weapons)

One day Swami told me, "Ask any boon. Let Me bestow it on you".

"Swami! I want to tie you with Brahmasthram. Give me this boon".

"You want Brahmasthram. But Prema Asthram is more powerful than Brahmasthram. You had already tied me with Prema Asthram."

Then I opened Swami's Bhagavatha Vahini to find an evidence. On page 89, I found the following:

"Devotees love and their surrendering, completely tie Me. When compared with devotees’ prema shakti (Energy), Lord Vishnu’s energy is weak. Nothing is equal to this energy. That prema (selfless love) has tied Me".

I read this portion with tears and I was simply stunned. On page 153 of Sai Arulamudam, Swami Krishna Chaithanyar says:" ‘I know not meditation, puja, japam and yogam, I have only limitless prema. This is enough for a devotee".

15

EFFULGENT BODY

On March, 1996. I asked Swami to clear my following doubt :

"Swami! When I get your subtle darshan I put my head over Your knee and cry. Is this correct?"

Swami : This is not a physical body, this is a shining spiritual body. You are in my great effulgence. What you see in meditation is not physical body. Spiritual effulgence which comes from Me induces spiritual blissful feeling. In spiritual effulgence where is the place for physical body? During Dhyana darshan, there is neither your body nor Mine; only spiritual effulgent bodies exist. There is no physical feeling at all.

I went through Gita chapter 13: "You are not this body, but Atma which is different from the body. Know Myself as undestroyable spiritual truth".

I saw this teaching as a good coincidence to the above mentioned darshan.

Though a thing is polluted one, when it merges with God, its pollution goes away. Gopies might have had attachment and lust, but Krishna did not have them. He is beyond Gunas, always blissful, and the Lord of Supreme wisdom. All the internal emotions of the devotee are small rivulets. When all rivulets join the ocean, they too get purified. But the ocean does not lose its holiness.

For example, when you mix one cup of water with ten cups of milk, the water also gets the rate of milk.

16

CLEARING THE DOUBT

One day I was reading the sayings of Paramahamsa in "Dharma Chakram" (a monthly Tamil magazine). Though Radha was attracted by Krishna during Vrindavan leela, sentiments which arose from Radha were spiritual; in the same manner, whoever has Radha’s sentiments alone, can realise God. For the sake of Krishna prema, Gopies renounced their husbands, children, race, profession, culture, honour, dishonour, shyness, hatred, hesitation due to judgment of others, fear of social disreputation etc. The effulgence that came from the holy body of Krishna touched Gopies. It entered every root of their hair and gave pleasure which is many times greater than worldly pleasure.

I hesitated to publish this book because I thought that society may blame me and others may also think it otherwise when a lady merges with God. Because of this hesitation, I feared and tried not to publish my experiences. Only after reading the above magazine "Dharma Chakra", I got clarification.

Lo! how Swami Himself (who made me to go through that magazine) clarified my doubt.

"Supreme soul alone is the only male; all other individual souls are females. Society’s blame, thoughts of what others may think; why such thoughts come to you? There should be no such walls between God and the devotee". Ho! Swami showers such a great grace! When I feared and hesitated a lot to write this book, how beautifully Swami clarified my doubt.

17

NOT KNOWLEDGE, HEART! HEART!

In "Dharma Chakra", I read as under :

When Paramahamsa narrated about Prema Bhakti and Madhura Bhavam, Vivekananda tried to prove that the incident that took place between Radha and Krishna could not be a historical truth. At once Paramahamsa gave Vivekananda, the following reply.

"Devotion should be used to uplift your mind to a higher state. One should not confuse with his knowledge. In Madhura Bhavam the aspirant behaves like a husband or wife. But internally one is merged with the Almighty. Radha is the embodiment of Maha Bhava. Her mind is immersed in holy feelings. Removing petty feelings and worldly pleasures and combining mind, speech and body together, Radha laid them under the image of Lord Krishna. The aspirant who has attained Radha’s (husband-wife) attitude merges with God and enjoys the highest joy. Madhura Bhavam itself consists of all other Bhavams, servant (Dasan), friend, Mother and all other Bhavans, come under this. In Madhura Bhavam sexual passion is converted into spiritual emotion. Final goal of sadhana is only to attain the Maha Bhavam of Radha."

When such a great soul like Vivekananda himself tried to investigate with his knowledge, what to say about a common man? So I request the readers, who go through this book, to approach this with devotional attitude. Then you will hear my heart-beat and you will understand every beat of that pulse which yearns for God and also understand the enthusiasm and thirst of my soul to merge with supreme soul.

My request to the readers is : Don’t try to investigate all these experiences, debating with one another. Try to realise by the heart that is full of devotional emotions. Try to realise God, not by the knowledge but by the heart which is filled with devotional emotions.

By heart, heart, heart alone attain His grace.

REGULATIONS OF PREMA BHAKTI

I told Swami in one of my visions : "Swami! I understand one thing that after reading the three parts of this book only my glory occupies the major portion of this book. There might have been some desire in my mind such as that I am greater than anyone else and that all should praise me and congratulate me. Is it that I should get name and fame and publicity? It is only my autobiography". Blowing my face, I wept like anything as if my heart would burst out.

Swami replied : "When one’s own experiences are written, it will be like that only. Why do you exaggerate this?"

Vasantha: "Swami! when I converse with You it appears that I am an eminent scholar. It looks as if You are defeated by me and I am praised by You".

Swami: "Why you think and cry that all those things denote you. This is the general rule of prema Bhakti. This rule is common to all. The same answer will be given if any devotee like you asks questions like this. These are the characteristics of Prema Bhakti. After reading this, at least some one else may try to become devotee like you. Is is not"?

When Swami completed the above sentences, sacred ash appeared around the altar as His blessing. Afterwards I, my husband, Dr.’s family and K.R. Krishnamurthy went to Puttaparthi to attend Sivaratri on 7 March, 1991. I showed my diary at Puttaparthi, containing the above message. They all stressed that this should be included in this book.

At Puttaparthi I randomly opened page no. 239 of "Summer Showers" (1991 Edition) book; the following was found in it:

"It is not correct to think that Radha is an ordinary human being and it is the name of a woman. There is no difference between men and women from God’s point of view. If one surrenders like Radha, whether one is a man or woman, it will be considered as Radha’s aspect; whoever has this aspect can think nothing but God; they never think otherwise. Though a jnani (intellectual soul) lives in this world, he does not allow the world to live into him. To (explain) experience this, one should know about Radha’s devotion".

Everyone wondered what a beautiful proof for the above explanation. At Puttaparthi itself on 28 April, 1997 Swami gave me darshan and spoke in my meditation.

"You are Radha herself. You are born to show the world, the suffering of separation. You aspire for God like a fish out of water. You have been born to show how one should lament, yearn, aspire, and cry to get the Lord? Your life is the best example for the sufferings of separation. Since every atom of your body, blood drop, nerve and cell chant God, you alone can become Radha."

MADHURA BHAVAM

There are so many relations in the world like Husband, Wife, Mother, Father, Son, Daughter, Brother, Friends, Master, Disciple. Of all these, Husband-wife relationship alone is based on Madhura Bhavam. Husband lives for his wife and the wife for the husband. This kind of life is the best. When you turn this Prema towards God, it becomes holier. Yearning and aspirating for God, fretting and fuming to attain the Lord, swimming in His grace and bliss, different kinds of such emotions are called Madhura Bhavam.

Husband-wife Bhavam is called Prema Bhakti. When that love towards the Lord reaches it climax, then a Meera Bai, Radha and Andal appears on such occasions. She is happy to live for the sake of God. Even while sleeping throughout the day and night, she lives for Him. She spends her time crying because of the separation of God, the next moment laughing when the Lord is near her. When they sing and search the Lord, they look like mad from the point of view of others. She differs in worldly activities in that state. Now any worldly pleasure won’t attract her. No attraction can entangle her. Her world becomes a separate one.

WELCOME WITH POORNA KUMBHAM

We all Sai devotees started from Madurai by bus at 9.30 A.M. on 30 September, 1996 to participate in the Paduka Pratishta festival, at Sathya Sai Baba's Prasanthi Nilayam Ashram.

"O Sai! O Krishna! Your Radha comes to your Vrindavan; she comes to the kingdom of the greatest Emperor, to participate in the great yagna (Holy fire). What sort of welcome will I be given - Poorna Kumbham welcome or shall I have to sit in a corner like an ordinary citizen"? My mind was crying like this. I did not sleep in the bus and wept unceasingly. On this occasion, I prayed for Swami so that any ‘Dhristi-dosham’ (evil thoughts and sights of wicked people) should not affect Him.

Swami’s padukas were given a holy bath (Abhishekam) by me with salutation and sacred ash, saffron, and nectar appeared on the padukas. At once all those assembled in the shed prayed with folded hands.

When Poorna Ahooti (offering holy thing completely at the sacred fire) was given at Dhanvantari yajyam, I saw Ardhanareeswar appearing and accepting Poorna Ahuthi. At once I conveyed this message and the scene to Erramma who was near me.

Then all the festival committee members went to Sri Sathya Sai Super Speciality Hospital and 30 people followed them. I did not want to go there because Subramanian Chettiar of Madurai had announced that ladies were not allowed to go inside there. So when there was no chance to see Bhagavan, why should I go there? But Ramachandran of Virudunagar compelled me and took me there. There also they did not allow us. We waited for a long time and then they allowed us to go inside. There myself and Erramma stood in the queue to have the darshan of Dhanvantari (the physician of the God). Ten or fifteen devotees were standing behind us. There were some fifteen devotees, standing in front of me. I paid my salutation to Mr. Jayarama Sastri. He introduced me to one who was near him. The other person said. "After Dhanvantari darshan, come here; let me give you prasadam".

Once again we stood in the queue at our original place. When we three people --- one before me, myself and Erramma behind me were about to move they stopped the queue. Then I was just standing behind Dhanvantri statue and the other two stood near me. Mr. Sastri came with Poorna Kumbha on his palm. He sprinkled Poorna Kumbha holy water over my head, and scattered akshat (holy yellow rice) also. Then after breaking the coconut, he showed the camphor flame before me in clockwise circle. When the camphor was shown to Dhanvantri; it seemed that it was shown to me also. Then they gave flowers to me.

One of them asked me to come near him. He filled Erramma’s and my hands with flowers and Akshata (ceremonial rice grains). At that time, I cried and wept with blissful tears. Erramma asked me, "What has happened to you?" I answered : "Nothing." How could I speak in such state?

"O Lord! O My soul! what a wonderful thing! You gave me a whole-hearted Poorna Kumbha welcome as per my prayer. With Veda chanting by the Sastri, Poorna Kumbha was brought and he sprinkled holy water which fell on my head --- with all these things it was a colourful blessings. O! how many blessing I had! Then, as usual, I shed my tears and cried : "O Baba! How many opportunities have I had and how fortunate am I!

Then I was laid down for two days in transcendental state. I was not even able to walk. Erramma, being my dear friend, took me with her. When I was about to wear other’s foot-wear, it was Erramma who helped me to wear my foot-wear. Everyone around me wanted to know the reason, but I did not reveal it then. At last I told Erramma to open my diary and showed it to Ramachandran. Is Erramma not a better evidence than any other evidence for the above incident?

I felt during my four days stay at Puttaparthi as if I was in a dream land and floating in the air. Undoubtedly, I am Krishna’s Radha herself. I have a special place in Sai Krishna's empire. How graciously Swami proved this!

With my welcome with Poorna Kumbha my present birth has attained the absoluteness. The goal of my life has been attained. This is the peak of my spiritual experiences. My sadhana has been completed and my ideal has been fulfilled. What a unique miraculous fortune of mine by Bhagwan Sri Sathya Sai Baba Grace!

May Baba’s blessing be on you all!

Jai Sai Ram!

Om Shanti! Shanti!! Shanti!!!
