  Evolutionary Philosophy

  This is a name I have coined to describe some ideas that I would like to publicise and share via the web
  • The most wonderful thing about our corner of the universe is how simple physical laws have lead to the emergence of complexity which through evolution have resulted in us!
  • Evolutionary philosophy starts with the emergent properties of the basic laws of nature and derives a guide to the forming of models for prediction and action.
  • Important features of these ideas are a practical, empirical and non supernatural view of reality that leads to a model for action that leaves room for and encourages many of the positive attributes of traditional experience for example, religion and religious practice.

    January 2004 update.
    It is quite interesting how the concept of "Evolutionary Philosophy" is growing, because when I first coined the phrase a few years ago I was unable to find any references using that set of words in several full web searches using all the search engines I knew at the time. I did this to check out if the phrase had also been used by others to mean something different from what I would like it to mean initially and assumed that I therefore had an open field to describe it the way I wanted. Like any concept though once aired it has a life of its own and will evolve in its own right irrespective of my feelings! I am of a strong opinion that it is an idea that has reached its time and could have a big effect on thinking in the next decade or two.

    January 2005 update.
    I have been doing a lot more studying of other people's work and philosophy in general and think that my ideas are probably best described as Evolutionary Metaphysics. I had considered that Metaphysics was mainly concerened with what can best be described as the "supernatural" which is something that I by definition deny the existance of. However metaphysics means "beyond phyisics" where Physics describes the basic progesses that operate in our universe. What I am trying to describe are the processes by which the simple laws of physics create complexity as part of their naural evolution through time a genuine scientific metaphysics.

    October 2007 update.
    Just done a bit of tidying up. Have lots of ideas in draft form and must get them completed and posted up soon.
