Academics/Research I am currently working for TSI Incorporated as a senior development engineer. TSI is one of the world's leading manufacturers of particle measuring instruments. I joined TSI in March of 1999, after graduating from the doctoral program at the University of Minnesota from the division of environmental and occupational health. My research at graduate school relates to study of aerosol transport related to health-based aerosol sampling which will help to better understand and design aerosol sampling instruments used in the field of industrial hygiene. My advisors were James H. Vincent and G.Ramachandran. Dr. Vincent is a world renowned aerosol physicist who has authored two books (Aerosol Science for Industrial Hygienists (1995) and Aerosol Sampling, Science and Practice, (1989)) on aerosols and has more than 180 publications. He was also the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Aerosol Science. I was admitted in to this program in Jan. 1995 and the project I was working on was funded by the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) under the auspices of the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). I graduated in 1998 and was a post-doc for about 9 months. For those interested in Industrial Hygiene offered by the University of Minnesota, check out the Industrial Hygiene homepage. |

Personal I was born in Andhra Pradesh but grew up in Trichy, one of the major cities in Tamilnadu, India, and lived there for about 23 yrs. My mother tongue is Telugu but I am more fluent in Tamil. In Trichy, I lived in Kailasapuram, BHEL township and went to R.S. Krishnan Higher Secondary school from Kindergarden to high school. I joined the Regional Engineering College, Trichy in 1986 to do my bachelors in mechanical engineering. I got a job in Tata Consulting Engineers, Bangalore through the campus interviews. I worked there for 2 yrs. until inspired by Senthil Balasubramaniam who was my school-mate, college-mate, office-mate, room-mate and my best friend, I decided to come to U.S. . I did my masters from West Virginia University, Morgantown, WV, one of the most scenic places in the U.S. . My research involved design and testing of new air sampling instruments for use in coal mines. This brought me close to industrial hygiene and a phone call from Dr. Vincent changed my future for the better. My father retired as the Director of Engineering and R&D at the corporate office of BHEL, New Delhi and is working for Germanischer Lloyd-INDIA in Madras. My brother Avula Srihari is working for Sapient based in New Jersey. |
