Haverford School Timeline Project

Students will work in groups of two and be assigned a time period to research. Your job will be to report on the history of The Haverford School for a given time period, as well as make connections to historical events and technological advances, noting similarities and differences to how things are today. The main source for your project will be The Haverford School Timeline. However, you will need to use the Internet for other requirements, and you may use books or other references, such as the Halogoluk school yearbook, or other school-related publications, and encyclopedias.

Time periods for research:

1884 - 1900
1901 - 1919
1920 - 1935
1936 - 1949
1950 - 1963
1964 - 1974
1975 - 1989
1990 - Present

Student groupings and time periods for research will be assigned via e-mail.

Required: Students are required to make a PowerPoint point presentation to the class about their time period. The presentation must have a proper header, digital photographs (found on the Timeline, and on the school network), important facts about the school, technology, world events and history for the time period as well as critical thinking. A bibliography is also required.  Groups must present their report to the class in order to get credit. DUE DATE: June 1.

Some of the facts that you should include in your report are:

Who were the headmasters of the school?

How many students were at the school during this period (enrollment)?

What other people at the school played an important role?

Where was the campus located?

What buildings were on campus?

Did students live on campus?

What construction projects were proposed or underway?

What were the most recent advances in technology, and what were some of the most important historical events that occured during your time period. Don't forget to compare and contrast the facts that you share. You may wish to make a fact bank for this purpose. Websites below are only a starting point. You may need to check your e-mail or the Teamboard for more links to electronic resources!
