Jay Brown - Soccer Coach [Return to Main Page]
I have coached soccer for the past 20 years on the club and high school levels. My coaching philosophy begins with an emphasis on technique, tactics and sportsmanship. I evaluate my players based on their technique, tactical awareness, fitness and coachability. Also, their ability to put the team first and overall sportsmanship is considered. Practices often consist of small-sided games with restrictions that highlight a specific area of the game (attack, defense, midfield play).
As a coach, it's important to remember that soccer is a game and is supposed to be fun! Too often, players, coaches and parents take the game too seriously. So, you'll never see me holler at a player and rarely see me shout at a referee. Rather, I tend to celebrate what players do on the field and allow for problem areas to dictate what the next practice will focus on.
