One of the seven wise men in antiquity, and the founding father of Ionian physic philosophy. He was born around 640 B.C. in Militos, a waterfront town of M. Asia near the outfalls of river Maiandros, which was an Athenian colony.

His family was a very rich one and his father, because of his wealth, was an important person in Milito. Thales had the chance to be a student of the best and wisest teachers of Egypt, and have a multifaceted education. He traveled a lot and lived in great places of the Mediterranean sink, like Egypt and Babylonia.

He studied mathematics, engineering, astronomy and philosophy.

In his country, these sciences was in their first stages and started to develop when the class of the sailors, and merchants took on authority. All thinkers of that time, studied the physical phenomena and applied a new material cosmic theory which served the new class. Among them, Thales was a pioneer in this new progressive proclivity and he offered invaluableness services in mankind and his country.

The ancient Greeks rightly believed that he was the wisest among the wise men of his age. He appears as the introducer of Astronomy, as a technical consultant of king of Kroisos of Lydia, as a geometer, as  the maker of Astrolavos, and as the founding father of the physical Ionian cosmic theory. He is the first agent of the rational cosmogony and of the theory that explains the birth of our world with logic and physical causes, without the interference of metaphysical considerations.

Thales pretended that "The first element of the birth of our world is water". Aristotle and the Latin philosophers concluded in the same  theory.

The attempts of posteriors to present Thales as a religious individual failed, because his life and the principles of his cosmic theory described him as a major materialist and a rationalist among the Ioanian physicist philosophers.

Even in our days, Thales is considered to be the most imposing figure of ancient scientific community.
