The Speaker/Lighting Cluster Fly System

Assembling components on the floor, then hoisting it by cable and winch to the ceiling is the main advantage of the fly system. This also permits floor access to the cluster for inspection and maintenance. This beats the heck out of packing 45 pounds of speaker up 40 feet of shaky scaffolding!!!

Here is a picture of the steel support structure, brake, and winch.

Designed by Allied Communications, Inc. of Lexington , Ky. , the three speakers are powered 15" ElectroVoice, fed individually with #14 awg leads from the main sound rack located under the balcony. The two in the front are wired mono for the house and the rear speaker is the choir loft monitor. The cluster is also fed with one shielded lighting circuit to provide two down light 500 watt 6" fresnels. The shielding is to prevent any residual RFI from the dimmers out of the speakers.

In the near future I plan to add a four channel dimmer pack, NSI DDS 6000+, to the structure and also a DMX512 lighting protocol feeder for operating Wybron color scrollers.
