IN THE NEXT ISSUE OF THE 'JOURNAL'

The next issue of the IIREE Journal, No 5, will carry the following main features:

• Spoornet (Part 1) by John Shell. The story of this remarkable South African railway, with particular reference to its electrification schemes. Part 1 sets the scene.

• Hampshire system is set to feature first underwater LRT tunnels in UK, by Adrian Searle. A description of this ambitious Light Rail scheme tells the story up to the point where the scheme was to be submitted to a public enquiry.

• The Russians and Soviet Railways during the two World Wars, by F. Mulyukin and V. Kulikov. An interesting inside view of the Russian railways before the Revolution, and the emotions and heroic efforts of the former USSR railways in the Second World War. The authors clearly remember the old Communist era, and their pride in what was achieved is here for all to see.
