[Part 2. - (Notes from Cathy Downes)]
A George Downes took the Oath of Fidelity and Allegiance in Queen Anne's County, 1778 (Ref. MD Hist. Soc. MS.1814). Also: George Downes was an officer in the American Revolution and a member of the convention at Chestertown which gave the Episcopal Church its name. George Downes' brothers were the founders and incorporators of Caroline County.". Could this be the same George Downes?
George MAY be the son of Charles Downes, son of JOHN DOWNES II, (A George Downes appears as the executor in Charles Downes will dated May 13, 1787, SC-7-64 available at Maryland Archives)
Ann Cooper Hall first married John Hall, then married George Downes.
There is a possibility George was married twice... I have numerous children, but don't know who they belong to (yet).
Census:
Name of head of family: Downes, George
Free white males 16 years and upward = 1
Free while males 16 years and under = 4
Free white females including heads of household = 3 (Ann his wife and possibly Anna Maria b abt 1790 - that leaves one possibly two females missing)
VACHEL b. 1798, son of GEORGE DOWNES and ANN HALL, m. on March 21, 1822, Barnes marriage Records. Children of Vachel: John A. abt 1832, Susan A. abt. 1835, Anna Abt 1837, Census 1790 #1
That's about all I have on George... my husband is descended from George through Vachel, brother to Anna Maria Downes. Yes, I'd love to exchange information, it's just that I am still struggling with George. Once I make the connection to the very early Downeses I will have a lineage back to 1640. But, I am still working on the connection, and hence I am researching wills and posting them as I go. (from Cathy Downes)
Descendants of Anna Maria Downes
Notes for ANNA MARIA DOWNES:
From: Descendants of Lewis Derochbrune by George Wilson (book published 1976, Baltimore, MD):

Ann Maria Downes, mother of all his children, was born cir 1790 and died March 1840. She was the daughter of George and Ann Downes and the sister of Vachel Downes, whose daugher Annie Marie later would marry Robert Edwin Wilson, whose first wife was Sara Ann Wikinson, daughter of Christopher Wilkinson IV and Sara Derochbrune.

From Queen Anne's County by Frederic Emory, (page a433): Queen Anne's in the War of 1812 - "Thomas Derochbrune was probably the last survivor of the picket which met the British advance. He died on the 15th of August 1875, having been born in 1792. According to a writer in Centreville Record, he was a member of Captain Henry T. Story's company. The same writer states that two British soldiers were killed by the fire of the picket and were afterwards buried by Christopher Wilkinson, father of Capt. John Wilkinson, of Centreville, and David Yoe, both of whom were members of Major Emory's troop. Major Nicholson states that two were killed and five wounded."
