"Scientific" Laws and Theories:

Missing Sock Theory: Many people theorize that washing machines or dryers eat socks. However, I have experimental evidence for an alternative theory. Twenty pairs of a common brand of identically colored and textured socks were purchased and monitored over a period of two month of normal usage and weekly washing. At the end of the two month period, a survey of the socks was made with the following results: Twenty pairs of socks were now 40 unmatched socks, differing in color and texture. Conclusion: No support could be found for the theory that washing machines or dryers eat socks. Instead, a new theory is proposed stating that commercially available matching socks become unmatched over time with repeated wearing and washing. Further experimental corroboration of this theory is in progress.

Corollary to Newton's Law of Gravitation: An object, irregardless of it shape or consistency, when released directly over a trash can will tend to fall in such a manner as to miss the trash container entirely.
