This allowed you to save
power, save the TN12 from unnecessary wear and tear, and save the bulbs
in the radio, since they would remain on all the time if connected to AC.
With the turn of the 1970's, a new connector was introduced to many radios,
cassette recorders and other low consumption equipment, as it was cheap
to make and supply, universal, and didn't need cable storage space in the
radio, as it was disconnected from the unit when not required. This connector
was what is officially known as the IEC 320 C7 (the plug) and IEC 320 C8
(the socket). More commonly known as a "figure of 8" connector because
of it's shape, it looks like this:
Without the in line switch,
you now had to pull the plug from the unit to save AC, wear and tear, and
where fitted, bulbs in your Grundig Satellit, other high-end Grundig, or
other portable equipment. Until now! Available from me, you can buy a switched
"figure of 8" AC cord, with a 2 pole switch marked "ON" & "OFF". 2
pole switches disconnect both live and neutral for maximum safety, and
because you can't be sure which wire in live in many countries due to reversible
AC plugs being used.
The
switch is fitted about 12 inches/30 centimetres from the appliance connector,
but if you want it closer or further away, that can be done at no extra
cost. Cable length is 6 feet/2 metres approx. The cord is supplied as standard
with no AC plug fitted, you can supply that yourself, but if required,
I can fit a standard UK 13A plug, an American 2 pin, or European 2 pin
plug for an extra £1/$2US/2 Euro. Now you can just "turn it off"
without fiddling with AC outlets and switches that may be inaccessible,
pulling the plug from the appliance (causing wear and tear on the socket)
and have all the advantages that Grundig wisely offered in the 1960's.
Price for one cord with no AC outlet plug, but including shipping to anywhere
in the world, is £10/$21US/14.50 Euro. Payment can be UK sterling
cheque or postal order, cash (UK pounds/US Dollars or Euro's) in registered
post or Paypal (But email me first to confirm cost and check availability!).
Cheque's in foreign currency take up to 4 weeks to cash and cost an extra
£7, thanks to the inflexibility of the UK banking system, so I'd
rather avoid this method if possible, as it is so slow and costly.
This cord will fit Grundig Satellit models: 1000, 2000, 2100, 3000, 3400, 1400, 2400, 300, 400, 4000, 600 & 650, also many other Grundig radios with internal AC units, eg: Ocean Boy 400/500/510, Concert Boy's/Party Boy's/Music Boy's from the mid 70's to the late 90's, Radio Cassettes such as the C8800, C9000, C4100, C4200, C2600, C2800, and Cassette recorders like the C410, and all the models that look like the CR485 (sloped speaker/mid panel). Also many other manufacturer's models take this same connector. In short, if your appliance has a socket that looks like the illustration above, this will fit.
