Abstract:
An optical fibre laser velocimeter of the Doppler difference type
incorporating a fibre optic directional coupler for beam amplitude division
has been constructed and satisfactorily demonstrated. Components normally
used to give the frequency offset required to yield directional information
in laser velocimeters are incompatible with fibre optic technology.
Therefore, in the present system, a pseudo frequency offset was generated
through the used of a fibre optic piezo-electric optical phase modulator.
Moreover, thermal stability ls achieved through feedback control.
